This work is about convening partnerships to build ecosystems and exchange wisdom. It celebrates the neighbourhood and neighbourliness, in turn making our world a bigger, more inclusive place. It recognises and supports those who do the work of impact in conflict zones. In a world grappling with pressing challenges, immediate actions are crucial for meaningful social change. From human rights to economic empowerment and sustainability, the need is undeniable. Philanthropy has been a powerful tool in driving social change over the years, reducing the effects of social inequality and improving access to social services. Many businesses have also joined in through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. However, despite the insufficiencies faced in the social impact sector, we still see many businesses adopting a narrow-minded approach to market behaviour, focusing solely on profitability and neglecting impact creation. The disconnect between the pursuit of social good and the contribution of businesses towards achieving it is a pressing issue. That's why we've created the Profit with Purpose Africa (PWPAfrica) platform, which is an advocacy campaign aimed at transforming businesses into catalysts for social change. It's time to move away from solely focusing on market behaviour and prioritise impact creation alongside profitability. Join us in breaking the myth that social good is solely in the hands of philanthropies and social sector players. PWPAfrica seeks to demystify, simplify, and pave the way for impact-focused investing, purposeful business practices, and catalytic philanthropy. 📣Exciting to release our 2023 Impact Report. Some key highlights: - Since 2017, our investments in green initiatives have grown considerably: as of March 2023, we had invested approximately $90.9 million (£76.3 million). We intend to double this figure by 2025, making green, sustainable initiatives 70% of our total portfolio (up from the 60% that it is today) - Since 2017, FSD Africa has helped to mobilise green finance by supporting the first green bond issuances in #Kenya and #Nigeria. We have since used this experience to build a diversified portfolio of other projects in innovative  #climatefinance. Through this support, we’ve played a crucial role in 12 local currency green bond issuances in #Kenya, #Nigeria, #Rwanda and #Morocco, which together have catalysed around $347 million (£272 million) for green projects – of which 30% was crowded in during the period covered by this report (April 2022 to March 2023). - On Carbon Markets, FSD Africa is supporting 4R Digital in developing #Cavex, a digital platform that enables smaller-scale projects and low-income households to participate in #carbonmarkets. The platform is aiming to eventually host over 2.1 million small-scale users, with the potential to sequester over 27 million tCO2e. -Our work on natural capital has seen the piloting of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) in Africa through the African Natural Capital Alliance advocating for the financial sector to play a key role in mobilising capital to protect and restore #nature. The alliance currently has over 30 signatories with combined assets under management of more than $390 billion (£321 billion).
