🎉 We are excited to share highlights of our recent #FoundationalLearning event in Kigali, Rwanda. We were joined by esteemed speakers Minister Gaspard Twagirayezu of the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and representatives from UNICEF, the national education NGO Inspire, Educate and Empower Rwanda, and The World Bank. 2024 marks the sixth year of the Hempel Foundation’s engagement in the country to promote quality primary education. 🏆 Rwanda is a pioneer country, prioritising the fundamentals and has heavily focused on investing in quality foundational learning for all. The Foundational Learning Action Tracker (https://lnkd.in/d3qrGTy8) highlights Rwanda’s status as “Championing” – the highest score on the scale - when it comes to government commitment to prioritising the fundamentals. 🤩 The event served to celebrate that commitment as well as to take stock of the task at hand. Sobering facts include that only about one in three Rwandan children complete six-years of primary education on time. And the majority leave primary school without solid foundational skills. Foundational Learning is the enabler of all future learning.📚 It provides the path to empowering people to make informed decisions, break the cycle of poverty and improve quality of life. With such a young and vibrant continent on the rise, it is imperative to make sure that its youth have access to the opportunity and training they require to flourish in the world of today. That's where Educate! comes in! Educate! is an organization on a mission to transform the lives of African youth. By collaborating with young inividuals, schools, and governments throughout #Uganda, #Rwanda, and #Kenya, they are addressing the urgent problem of youth unemployment head-on. Their objective? to create and deliver cutting-edge educational programs that provide young Africans the tools they need to advance their education, combat gender inequality, launch their own enterprises, find employment, and foster community development. Educate! employs a multifaceted strategy. They are revolutionizing education by placing a strong emphasis on skill-based learning. Fostering vital abilities like communication, creativity, and critical thinking is necessary for this. Educate! is a firm believer in the merits of teamwork. Together with youth, schools, and governments, they are developing solutions that have a long-term effect on the lives of young individuals. It's all about the outcomes. They evaluate the effect of their initiatives on skill development, educational attainment, gender equity, and economic outcomes by meticulous external reviews. Investing in youth is an investment in the future of Africa on a continent where approximately 50% of the population is under the age of 18. By providing young Africans with the appropriate opportunity and skills, Educate! believes they can break the cycle of youth unemployment and unleash the full potential of this vibrant generation. Impact assessments have revealed amazing results, with graduates earning twice as much as their peers, higher university enrollment, and improvements in gender equity-related outcomes. Every mother desires a better life for her child. While social justice recognizes the need to promote social justice and tackle issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, human rights, and social protection, in the world today, there exists many disparities. For many parents in Africa, especially single mothers from low-income and disadvantaged communities in Nigeria, a better life often starts with the fundamental right of quality education. At AREAi, we remain committed to advocating for educational reforms as we continue to reinforce our initiatives geared toward reforming the educational system to be more inclusive and diverse. The 10 hot topics that were covered in the African Youth Survey 2022 were relevant to the time & in subjects that specifically have impact on the African continent and on Africa's youth. Launched in 2020 by the Ichikowitz Family Foundation, the African Youth Survey and the topics covered within provide governments, the private sector & civil society with insights into the aspirations, motivations and viewpoints of Africa’s youth. Some of the topics chosen, remain relevant for each bi-annual survey whereas others are replaced by more current ones. This year sees the launch of the 2024 African Youth Survey - a new survey of Africa's youth with another new set of topics. "What is very clear to me is the incredible value of a tool like this; the issues that were predicted in the inaugural survey had occurred by the time the researchers ventured out for the second time. I believe the African Youth Survey truly is a crystal ball into the next five years. I have no doubt that this can become one of the most critically important development tools for the continent." Young people, especially women, face numerous challenges, including economic inequality, education, and unemployment. This year's theme, "Youth Skills for Peace and Sustainable Development," highlights the crucial role of youth in building a better future. We create a more just and equitable world by empowering young women and men with the skills they need to succeed. This is not just about technical abilities but about building bridges, fostering understanding, and creating a culture of peace.
