Container carriers are fighting for market share Currently, 37 vessels of 77,185 TEU are idle. 504 vessels of 7.33M TEU are operating on the Asia - Europe / Mediterranean routes. 254 vessels of 2.72M TEU on the Asia - USEC route. 312 vessels of 2.67 TEU on the Asia - USWC route. The alliance changes in 2025 would see sidestepping of capacity discipline to fight for market share amid the fall in freight rates, reported The Loadstar. “Carriers have failed to adjust Asia-North Europe capacity to match the reduction in cargo demand, with scheduled capacity from Asia expected to rebound by over 25% in the coming weeks. Apart from selective void sailings, none of the carriers on the Asia-Europe route is planning any winter capacity reductions. This would jeopardize their efforts to arrest the decline in freight rates”, according to Linerlytica.

Air cargo analysts are reporting a significant rise in air freight rates in recent weeks due to increased global demand for air cargo space. Expectations are that air carrier rate increases will continue as additional Red Sea ocean shipments transition to air freight and compete for limited cargo space. Shipments from Asia to Europe and North America are affected. Early planning remains vitally important for shipments to the U.S. by sea or air for the foreseeable future. PIBL strongly suggests that international exhibitors contact their agents or brokers and discuss their shipping options well in advance.

The container shipping market is experiencing a shocked uptick. Asia-Europe forwarders were caught by genuine higher-than-expected demand on top of the continuing Red Sea crisis when the spot freight rate began to march upwards. The carriers continue to trim capacity out of Asia which let them select higher-paying FAK shipments over contract cargo. Shanghai to Rotterdam is $3,709 FEU and Shanghai to Genoa is $4,295 FEU. Asia to North Europe is expected to be $5,000 FEU. Asia to Mediterranean is expected to be $5,400 FEU. The other trade lane latest spot rate, Asia to North America is $3,754 FEU and Shanghai to New York is $5,089 FEU, reported The Loadstar.

If you are a stakeholder or even a minute part of the shipping fraternity, I am sure your timeline has been flooded with information and videos of an explosion at the Ningbo port. The explosion seems to have been caused by dangerous goods being transported by a reefer container at the port and investigations are in place. The vessel operates on the China-Middle East trade lane. More detail in the following story: https://lnkd.in/gkPikEk6

Freight forwaders/anyone lifting volume out of China, are you seeing constrained capacity in the air freight market? I haven’t seen any news about it, but I’m also not focused on that sector as much anymore. Asking for a friend. #supplychain #logistics #freightforwarding
