Until you illuminate your supply chains, the risks lie below the surface, literally. Who owns and operates the telecommunications cables along with your operational footprint and what data you transmit has a significant impact on your risk assessment. #SCRM #FOCI #UBO

The best way to defeat the enemy is to not let it get to the battlefield. Recent reports indicate the U.S. has found Chinese malware embedded in critical infrastructure networks in Guam and the continental U.S. It has penetrated electrical power, telecommunications, water utilities, oil and gas pipelines, and port control systems. This could easily keep supplies trapped on the base. Congress has passed 2024 National Defence Authorization targeted to shore up risks on the base. However at least 2 risks remain. (1) Does the executive branch actually implement what is authorized? (2) The focus is the military bases. Period. The entire transportation system which supports the military is equally at risk. The (supply) chain is only as strong as it's weakest link #hybridwarfare requires collaboration across the silos to protect democracy

Sobering Reading on the state of U.S. National Defense This is a thoughtful report produced by senior leadership that is well worth reading in its entirety. Serious deficiencies in our defense procurement processes, inability to leverage private industry, and, personnel and readiness issues are identified. This, in a time of increased global threats. Regarding the state of GPS development and our lack of an integrated PNT assurance plan, two quotes resonated with me: “…in a national emergency, DoD will likely be called on for domestic missions, which could negatively affect readiness for warfighting missions.” “….future conflict with a major power would likely involve attacks on the U.S. homeland, particularly cyberattacks on U.S. critical infrastructure, disinformation campaigns, and the possibility of kinetic strike. Because the large majority of critical infrastructure and information systems fall outside the direct purview of DoD, defense of the homeland requires effective integration and planning with other U.S. government departments and agencies, as well as with the private sector. To defend these assets and to enable deployment of U.S. forces and resources in a future conflict, the United States must invest in the resilience of its domestic critical infrastructure.” A diversified portfolio of mutually reinforcing techniques to ensure PNT availability is needed, AND, it’s not all that hard. You just have to start implementing it, make sure it is funded for the long haul, and accept that nothing will be perfect. https://lnkd.in/gTNCSDvR #GPS, #GNSS, #security, #defense,

Very true. Cyberattacks on Guam could sap US forces in Indo-Pacific, Nakasone says By Colin Demarest; 31 Jan 2024 Successful Chinese cyberattacks on critical infrastructure in Guam or other Indo-Pacific footholds could cripple U.S. military capabilities in the region, the leader of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command said. Guam is a key outpost for U.S. forces in the increasingly competitive area, where Washington thinks a fight with Beijing could erupt. The island serves as a logistics and munitions hub, as well as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance node. An assault on the networks and information technology that support Guam’s distribution of electricity, water, food and emergency response could “have a very significant impact” on the options available to military commanders at the time, said Gen. Paul Nakasone. https://lnkd.in/efsbDPJ9
