Did you know that February is National Canned Food Month? The Canned Food Information Council declared February to help recognize the significance of canned foods and their impact on alleviating hunger. You all know that I'm passionate about supporting organizations fighting to end food insecurity in our communities, so this is the perfect time to address the issue. Despite our progress, hunger remains a critical concern in the U.S. According to the Food Research and Action Center, 1 in 8 households (12.8 percent) experienced food insecurity or lack of access to an affordable, nutritious diet in 2022. That's an estimated 44.2 million Americans. Sadly, a substantial number of those affected are children (20%) and Latinos (1 in 5), emphasizing the urgent need for action. Let's commit to supporting our local food banks to make a difference. Canned foods, including fruit, tuna, chicken, and low-sodium vegetables, are listed on The North Texas Food Bank's most needed items. Whether through canned food donations or monetary contributions, every bit helps. https://ntfb.org/ To take it further, you can also support organizations like No Kid Hungry, a foundation dedicated to ending child hunger. No Kid Hungry focuses on providing meals, nutritional education, and advocacy to ensure no child in America goes hungry. https://lnkd.in/dVGt55SE Let's make this National Canned Food Month meaningful by coming together to transform our community into one where everyone can access the nourishment they need. #NationalCannedFoodMonth #EndHunger #CommunityLove

✨ Exciting News! ✨ This year, I'm stepping up (literally!) and joining the annual Stop Foodborne Illness STOP3000 Challenge for the first time. Typically, I contribute through donations, but this year, I'm pushing past my comfort zone... 👉 What’s the challenge? Each day in September, we're walking 3,000 steps in memory of the 3,000 lives lost to foodborne illness in the U.S. each year. This also aligns with National Food Safety Education Month—a cause that means so much to many of us in the profession. 👟 Why? Because food safety matters. Small actions today can lead to big changes tomorrow. So, any contribution is appreciated and will make a difference. 🎯 Our goal? We aim to raise $1,000 for STOP Foodborne Illness. If we hit our goal, here's a fun twist: we'll keep walking 3,000 steps daily for the rest of the year! 💙 Together, we can make a difference. Your support matters, whether through a donation or by sharing this message. Let’s #STOPfoodborneillness and honor those who’ve been impacted. Join our journey and contribute if you can! I'll keep you posted on how we do!

Tackling hunger, one red bag at a time! Food scarcity is at an all-time high in Canadian communities with almost two million visits to food banks in a single month. Unfortunately, donations to food banks are struggling to keep pace with the growing demand. In response, Purolator is proud to launch its second annual Purolator Tackle Hunger National Red Bag campaign. More than 50,000 red bags will be distributed across the country this September, giving residents a chance to support local food banks and those who need their services. Here’s how it works: Step 1: Drop-off 🍎 Starting Sept. 14, Purolator volunteers will deliver branded red bags directly to doorsteps. Each bag offers residents an opportunity to fill it with non-perishable items. (Dates vary by community – see link below for full details). Step 2: Fill 🥫 Throughout the week, participating residents are encouraged to fill their bags with non-perishable food donations to support families facing food insecurity. Step 3: Pick-up 🍞 On the following Saturday, Purolator volunteers will return to collect the filled bags from doorsteps and deliver them to local food banks. (Dates vary by community – see link below for full details). We are proud of our employees, partners and volunteers who are taking action to tackle food insecurity across Canada. Together, we can make a meaningful difference. For more information on locations, dates and how you can support the campaign and contribute to ending hunger in Canada, visit bit.ly/3zkfd9R

Today is #NationalNonprofitDay. We’re humbled to commemorate our 20th anniversary serving families affected by the flu. While it’s a milestone, it’s also a sobering reminder that our fight continues. When Families Fighting Flu began, the need for flu education was critical. Two decades later, that need is still urgent. 🌟 Your gift will help us deepen our commitment to dignity and equity! Give at bfn.org/donate Our pantries operate in a farmers’ market style, where members can choose what they’d like (or not). Due to our limited resources to source food, some items have a quantity cap. With your support, we will be able to: 🥚Source and receive larger quantities of the items our members want (think organic produce and high-quality protiens) 🚫Eliminate a one-size-fits-all approach for popular items. 👩👩👦Implement quantity guidelines based on household size. Your gift will expand equity and dignity at our food pantries. Give today at bfn.org/donate.

Food Insecurity Across the United States Think about donating money to help with Food Insecurity. Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Some key findings from our most recent study include: Food insecurity impacts communities in every county, parish, and congressional district in the U.S. Child food insecurity rates can reach almost 50% in some counties. Eight out of 10 high food insecurity counties are in the South, indicating regional disparities. Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. Do you want to get involved during Hunger Action Month? There are 5 simple ways to support the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry. ✅Donate produce from your own garden: Those zucchinis are out there, multiplying overnight, and there’s only so much zucchini one family can eat! We accept donations of fresh produce and shelf stable items, such as canned soup and vegetables. ✅Volunteer: You can volunteer with your family or your colleagues, just once, or once a week. SHFP is always in need of helping hands. ✅Organize a food drive: Food drive collections are especially great. Not only do they supplement the food supply, but usually food drives produce favorite brands and special items otherwise rarely available. ✅Host a High Holiday food drive: As you know, SHFP is the only kosher food pantry in the region, and the holidays are coming. Help make sure all of your Jewish neighbors are able to honor the holidays with dignity. ✅Make a donation to Squirrel Hill Food Pantry. Every dollar donated ensures that a family receives three healthy meals. National Food Bank Day was established to recognize food banks' vital role in fighting hunger nationwide. The first Friday of September is set aside to honor these critical organizations and to raise awareness about food insecurity. Van Hengel's innovative idea, sparked by the potential of recovering surplus food from grocery stores and restaurants, revolutionized the landscape of food outreach. His system, which swiftly collected and distributed food to those in need, gained rapid momentum, leading to the establishment of numerous food banks nationwide. This is a testament to the transformative power of a single idea. Here in Tucson, we're fortunate to have outstanding local food banks making a difference in our communities every day: ●The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona: serving Tucson & beyond, CFBSA offers a range of vital resources. These include food distribution, nutrition education, and advocacy, all aimed at alleviating food insecurity and promoting a healthier community. ●ICS (Interfaith Community Services): Offering food assistance & other supportive services to help individuals and families in need. ●Marana Community Food Bank: A branch of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, focusing on providing food and resources to those in the Marana area. Food banks in the U.S. distribute millions of pounds of food to families in need every year, making a huge impact on fighting hunger nationwide. National Food Bank Day is the perfect time to support your local food bank. Your help goes a long way, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy; together, we thrive! #tarsocial #tucsonrealtors #TARYPN #trcfsocial #tardiversity #tucsonarizona #realestate #realtorlife #deiwecare #diversitymatters #allwelcome #deiallwelcome #NationalFoodBankDay
