Wow! How has it already been a year?! I’ll tell you what though… that old saying “time flies when you’re having fun” couldn’t be more true. Here’s what I’ve learned this past year working as a Social Media Specialist for MacroAir Fans 1️⃣ Company culture is key for longevity. We spend a large majority of our lives in the workplace, so the atmosphere makes a huge difference on your well-being. 2️⃣ We are ALL learning. Not a single person knows everything about their craft, but being around people who encourage growth, and discovery make all the difference. 3️⃣ It’s okay to make mistakes. We’re all human…so it’s going to happen. We just have to shake it off, have a good laugh at ourselves, and learn from it. 4️⃣ Confidence will take you further than you could have ever imagined. I don’t usually have an attachment to THINGS. Whenever my family asks me what I want for my birthday or for Christmas, I usually say the same thing…"NOTHING!! I already have everything I need”. Yes, I’m a little boring that way. Anyway…leading up to the Christmas season some years ago, I was decorating our tree and the Christmas angel I usually put at the top accidentally fell off and broke into several pieces, especially the head. I have never thought much about that angel before, other than, “its a nice decoration”. I didn’t even realize it was ceramic!! In any case, a sense of loss came over me… the “nice” decoration didn’t seem so nice anymore and besides, the tree didn’t look complete. So, I swept up the pieces and saved anything that didn’t look like splinters. Ok, so I spent approximately 3 hours with those pieces of ceramic and a tube of glue, putting that angel back together. Well, the top and back of the head is still a bit of a mess and took the most time...but when it was done, I finally got to see how beautiful that decoration actually is. I had never noticed before. Of all of the Christmas decorations that I now put up every year, I protect this piece like it was my own family (Well, almost). But why? Certainly the time I spent putting that Christmas angel back together made me value it more. So where am I going with this? ➡Within the environment we currently work or live in, what do you value? ➡Do you value the relationships that you have worked so hard to develop? ➡Do you value the project that you have worked so hard to complete? ➡Do you value the time that you have given to your organization? ➡Do they valued you? ➡Have the time been spent having the conversations that matter? ➡Are there things that you currently take for granted? ➡How much time is spent actually working on the values that the organization has defined as being important in their direction? ➡Is any time spent in meetings, talking about those values? Spend the time to work on what matters!!! Take pride in the work you do!! What does it mean to be a Joy Ambassador? In Atlas of the Heart, Brené Brown defines Joy as “an intense feeling of deep spiritual connection, pleasure, and appreciation.” More simply put, it’s the good mood of the soul. Ambassador is commonly understood as “a person who acts as a representative or promoter”. ✨ Joy Ambassador / noun: A person who promotes the good mood of the soul. At one point in my career, I actually had a business card that read Riley Ware - Joy Ambassador (it’s a fun story, ask me about it sometime!). I like to think of my current title of Employee Experience Coordinator as just a fancier way to say Joy Ambassador. You have all the permission you need to be a Joy Ambassador - in your home, in your workplace, in your community. Just imagine what the world could look like with more Joy Ambassadors ☀️

This could include organizing team-building activities, sharing light-hearted jokes or stories during breaks, or even hosting a themed event or contest that encourages creativity and collaboration without causing disruption. Ultimately, the goal is to foster a work culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and comfortable, even on days like April Fool's Day. By maintaining professionalism and sensitivity to others' boundaries, you can ensure that everyone can enjoy the day positively and inclusively.

As we approach Ramadan, when our brothers and sisters are being killed by bombs and starvation, it's crucial to reflect on what is truly worth celebrating. In the context of workplace recognitions, celebrations, and awards, it's essential to consider how these events align with our values and humanity. Winning a trophy while choosing not to speak up for those who are suffering raises questions about the true meaning of success. How can we celebrate when we fail at the most basic aspect of being human—compassion and empathy for others?
