Sales people are the underrated employees in every organization?! Unfortunately due to some of my projects delivered this year, I have come across different challenges with Owners and their Management team about their Sales Team. Especially in Albania market where is common for not being based on well defined rules, sales is very tough environment to work. Top management and owners don't have the patience for sales people to thrive, they keep pushing their teams by creating the "pressure" to achieve targets that in most cases are not aligned, and sometimes not achievable and therefore put Sales on the "spotlight" of failure. In most organization's (still) Sales are notoriously mention as the overrated team in their management chain which unfortunately is not real, because other departments see Sales as money wasters when they do not achieve targets. When the targets are hit, the achievement is success that has come from all departments, when they are missed is Sales fault. This mindset is not right and nor logical afterall. My first question when i want to start a collaboration for any project is. What makes you product so different and can this product sell it self? I receive lot of answers but almost never that my sales team makes it premium, and yes the answer is your sales team makes it premium by adding value to it, not your marketing nor finance!(don't misunderstand they are very much needed along the process) However for a Sales team to thrive it is needed an healthy environment where all Management Chain runs smooth and collaborate among them. All big companies started their business, by selling their product first and then developed other departments, this is why Sales is most important department in your organization and if you have a good one, you will always outpace your competition!! Sales tip of the day: Citius, altius, fortius! (Faster, higher, stronger!) The modern Olympic motto is not perfectly suited to sales, but it is a close fit in some ways. We attempt to waste no time. We are always working against a rising bar; and we are always trying to strengthen customer relations, market share, and our personal position in our organizations. A Latin exhortation is nothing if not concise. It does have its limitations. Customers don’t like to be hurried, and we must take that into consideration. Not everyone wants to be taken to a higher level, and we have to work aggressively with only those who want us to help them take this next step. Weak prospects do not, as a rule, become strong customers, so we should not work at low percentage goals. Perhaps we should make our Olympic sales goals personal bests so as not to attempt to get our customers involved in a sports analogy, which should only be taken so far. One thing we can depend on is that every few years we will be asked to go for the gold, and we will hear Olympic theme music as meeting walk-in background. So—faster, higher, stronger—for better or worse, it must be. Make the best of it. It makes management happy to breathe to the beat of a global event. Monday morning will always be Monday morning, no matter what the theme. We get paid to deliver. That we do month in, month out—theme or no theme!
