As an attorney over three decades of experience, I've seen my fair share of injustices and biases within our legal system. But what concerns me deeply is the lack of media coverage of these incidents on the rising tide of anti-Semitic progoms and rhetoric. Where is the mainstream media in publicizing this growing threat against our Jewish communities? It's not just a matter of reporting the news; it's about taking a stand against hate and discrimination in all its forms. The silence of the media not only allows these dangerous ideologies to spread unchecked but also sends a message that these actions are somehow acceptable. We must demand more from our news outlets. We must hold them accountable for shining a light on these issues and educating the public on the real dangers they pose. It's not enough to simply be non-discriminatory; we must be actively anti-discriminatory. As a community activist, I urge you to join me in calling for greater media attention to this pressing issue. Social and economic issues in the 1980s set the context for Bet Tzedek’s early work. Such issues included stagflation and rising property values that resulted in predatory landlords forcing underserved individuals out of their homes, and denial of public benefits for low-income communities including Holocaust survivors. ❝When a woman becomes a widow during a conflict, her limited resources and lack of institutional support make her and her dependents far more susceptible to various types of harm.❞ Though widows can be more vulnerable to threats such as sexual violence, forced remarriage, exploitation, human trafficking, forced displacement and extremist recruitment, they are continuously rendered invisible in the Women, Peace, Security narrative and often excluded from conflict resolution plans. This needs to change. In light of the heart-breaking events in Southport, where three young girls lost their lives and several others were critically injured, I feel it's important to share my thoughts on the disgusting racist and Islamophobic riots that have followed. The violence and unrest that erupted after this tragedy have shifted the focus away from the victims and their families, who are in desperate need of support and compassion. Instead, we’ve seen far-right groups take centre stage, spreading hate and division at a time when we should be coming together. As someone who knows people that work in the police and friends in the area, I’m genuinely worried about their safety and the impact this unrest is having. Now, more than ever, we need to unite against racism and stand together in solidarity. Let’s keep our attention on honouring the lives lost and supporting those who are still fighting for their lives. We owe it to the victims to create communities that values understanding and compassion over hate. Let’s work together to ensure that such tragedies don’t define us, and instead, let’s build a future where love and unity prevail. The ongoing racist & islamophobic violence we are witnessing is devastating and deeply upsetting. Future Men stands together with Black and racially minoritised communities, who have been directly or indirectly affected. Future Men is committed to fostering an environment that is actively anti-racist. We condemn all forms of racist views, attitudes, and behaviours. These recent events underscore the urgent need for us to come together for an anti-racist UK where migrants, refugees and asylum seekers have their rights protected and can live in safety. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the young girls that were murdered and those who were injured, support to those impacted by this violence and hate. We urge our community partners and stakeholders to take a stand against these acts of inhumanity. It is only through collective action and solidarity that we can create lasting change.
