Transitioning Australia to renewable energy is no simple task! How can we provide accessible and affordable clean energy, build robust supply chains, and incentivise investment? My colleagues have explored potential solutions to some of the biggest challenges we're facing below.

Last week, I had the chance to participate in the ISA Regional Committee Meeting in Brussels, where I coordinated press demands and multimedia coverage. I set a challenge for myself by engaging European media to highlight the importance of solar energy investment. One statistic from the meeting has been on my mind: in 2023, only 3% of the world's total investment in solar energy went to Africa. Despite the continent's abundant sunlight, investment fears persist. ⚡️ Scottish Ministers have given the green light for the Creag Dhubh to Inveraray 275kV overhead line connection project, securing the final major approval needed for SSEN Transmission’s Argyll and Kintyre upgrade. This milestone paves the way for the next phase of the project, which aims to increase the capacity of the electricity transmission network in the region to support growth in renewable energy and ensuring security of supply. 💡 The upgrade, part of SSEN Transmission’s wider £20bn Pathway to 2030 programme, will play a key role in helping Scotland and the UK meet its net zero and clean energy targets. By upgrading existing infrastructure, the project will improve the transmission of home grown renewable energy, strengthening the network and ensuring a more reliable energy supply for homes and businesses across the country. ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/ej53uTxW

We are very excited to see that 15 EU member states recognise the immense potential of district energy systems to decarbonise heating and cooling. They have jointly called for a robust EU framework to unlock the significant potential of renewable energy sources, particularly district systems.   Combining local renewable energy sources with existing, modernised, and/or new district heating systems not only holds the potential to substantially contribute to decarbonising heating and cooling, but it will also strengthen the EU’s independence and security of supply, the stability of the energy system, and consumer prices.   Thank you Latvia, Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Greece, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain for pushing forward to decarbonise heat! The 18th Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) Conference is just around the corner, offering a vital platform for policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss innovation in clean energy technologies. This year’s event, under the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and in cooperation with the European Commission, focusses on Scaling up Research, Innovation, and Competitiveness in Clean Energy Technologies. Exciting news for the UK's green economy 🌿💼 The International Investment Summit has secured a staggering £63 billion in investments and nearly 38,000 jobs for the UK. Renewable energy companies are leading the charge: Iberdrola: Doubling investment to £24 billion, including £4 billion for East Anglia 2 wind farm Orsted & Greenvolt: £10.5 billion combined for offshore wind projects Octopus Energy: £2 billion for renewable energy, including solar farms and battery storage SeAH Wind: £225 million for wind technology, creating 750 jobs These green investments are part of a broader influx of capital across various sectors, from data centers to transportation infrastructure. It's a clear signal that the UK remains a prime destination for global investment, with a strong focus on sustainable technologies. But this represents an opportunity for the asset class to be profitable for sponsors with the adequate skills, knowledge and technology mix. 🟡 Today is World Energy Day ⚡️ In Cabo Verde 🇨🇻, the Energy transition support programme is paving the way for the country to achieve its ambitious renewable energy goals and build a sustainable energy future for all. 💨 ☀️ Due to the insularity and small market size of Cabo Verde, imported fossil fuels are expensive in the country, making renewable energies, especially wind and solar energy, which are endogenous and relatively well distributed across the islands, economically competitive. 💪🏽 By promoting renewable energy sources, encouraging energy-efficient practices and strengthening sector governance, the programme helps Cabo Verde reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and fosters a long-term goal of universal access to clean and affordable energy.
