🤝 Congratulations to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, we are ready and eager to work with you and with the next Commission!  We are happy to see that the Council and Parliament have appointed a strong Commission President who has a clear focus on secure and equitable access to medicines for Europe. 💊 The newly published political guidelines prioritse a Critical Medicines Act, a clear and strong engagement in strengthening medicines supplies in Europe. We would like the President’s newly formed commission to focus in the short term on delivering the planned Critical Medicines Act in the first 100 days in office. This should include concrete measures to ensure the sector gets the support it needs to thrive and boost medicines supplies in Europe while delivering on patient access. President von der Leyen led the EU through very turbulent years for health and security in Europe, including the global pandemic, subsequent wars and economic pressures from record inflation. We have learned the same lesson on the value of EU solidarity during these global events where our industry worked hand in hand with the EU to supply essential medicines to patients and hospitals around Europe and to Ukraine, reduce shortages, and contribute to equitable access and health. Given the President’s keen interest in industrial policy and open strategic autonomy, we look forward to continuing our work together to strengthen the sector which delivers 70% of dispensed medicines to patients. Of equal priority is supporting the co-legislators in concluding the reform of the EU pharma legislation by the end of 2025. #CriticalMedicinesAct #StrongerTogether #EU4Health #Access4all

Breaking: Ursula von der Leyen elected as new EU Commission chief. What is necessary in the next EU? The Global Gateway threatens to privatise EU aid and begs the question of who will really profit? EU companies and countries, or those in need?   4️⃣ On #climate, we need to urgently stop the climate crisis, while also changing agri policies and commercial practices to end food insecurity and guarantee a living income for farmers worldwide, including EU farmers. Climate. Inequality. Hunger. It’s all the same fight.   5️⃣ On inequality, the super-rich become richer and the poor poorer. Yet, EU governments fail to tax Europe’s wealthiest fairly and miss out on 33m EUR an hour in unpaid taxes from Europe’s multimillionaires. It's simple. It's time to #TaxtheRichEU.   👉 As we look at the EU's new priorities, we must remember Europe’s future cannot be built on policies underpinned by short-termism, insularism, or denial. It is clear that Ursula von der Leyen and our EU leaders must face challenges head-on and create a future that puts people and the planet first.

We congratulate Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election for a second mandate as President of the European Commission for the period 2024-2029. We are pleased to see the EC commitment to promote competitiveness, innovation, and resilience in Europe, as a signal of stability and continuity. On 18 July, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected for a second term - Congratulations 👏 - and the priorities of the new Commission were presented at the plenary session in the European Parliament.   YERUN welcomes the inclusion of the new European Prosperity Plan, which puts R&I "at the heart of our economy," as well as the "Union of #Skills" initiative, which places key topics for #universities at the core of the European #education landscape.   However, if Europe wants to be a leading global player, R&I must feature transversally throughout all priorities.   As stated by YERUN in its article “Much more than competitiveness”, published on 23 May 2024 in the context of the Competitiveness Council, research should go beyond a narrow economic focus, indeed this approach is insufficient to measure the full value of university R&I.   Read the full article 👇 https://lnkd.in/d4d6ymxH   Access the set-out priorities 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehgEFPsJ

🔰 The Political Guidelines 2024-2029 take into consideration the concepts of adult and lifelong learning, with some good starting points for the advocacy work! ▶ "Europe needs a radical step change in ambition and action – for all skill levels and all types of training and education. This is as important for people’s careers and prospects as it is for our competitiveness. To do so, we will establish a Union of Skills – focusing on investment, adult and lifelong learning, skill retention and the recognition of different types of training to enable people to work across our Union. Central to this will be embedding lifelong learning into education and careers and supporting the training and the career prospects of teachers." 

➡ During this new EU mandate with Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission, European Alcohol Policy Alliance - Eurocare hopes for a EU that focuses on advancing policies to prevent and reduce alcohol-related harm, and effectively prevent NCDs. 💡 Advancing the Beating Cancer Plan roadmap is crucial.
