You wouldn't label yourself... Dysfunctional... Would you? Your family member may... Your partner may... Your city or town may... What if we all recognize our own dysfunction and actually built systems to build back better in reality rather than just pretense. I know we like to cognitively agree and pacify our need for positivity in our world when their remains so much dysfunction... Nevertheless... This is why we still raise murderers. This is why we still have wars. This is why we still have crime. Hate. Loss. Death. Are we as humankind ready to be real or are we too glitzed out by all the glam of what we are taught to believe and experience. What if... We truly made a longer lasting impact than a generation or so? Why is this the norm? Cycles of dysfunction rather than cycles of health? These are good questions. Self-awareness and knowing our own dysfunction is a stepping stone to cultural and world wide health.

In "The Ideal Team Player" by Patrick Lencioni, a fascinating exploration of what makes an exceptional team player, he emphasizes the three essential virtues that contribute to building remarkable teams: Humility, Hunger, and People Smarts. Humility means prioritising the team's success over personal recognition. A humble teammate shares credit, seeks input, and values collaboration over individual achievements. Hunger is an insatiable drive for excellence and continuous improvement. A hungry team player shows relentless determination, never settling for mediocrity. They strive for consistent growth and set high standards for themselves and their peers. People Smarts is about emotional intelligence, a crucial skill for effective interactions. It involves being attuned to others' emotions, adapting communication style, and maintaining empathy. Strong people smarts fosters harmonious relationships and enhances productivity. Combining these three virtues creates a balanced dynamic where each member contributes wholeheartedly toward achieving shared objectives within a positive work environment anchored in trust, respect, and camaraderie.

Teamwork is the heartbeat of success, yet the journey towards a shared dream can be derailed by five common dysfunctions. 1. Absence of Trust Team members are unwilling to be vulnerable within the group. 2. Fear of Conflict Teams that lack trust are incapable of having unfiltered, passionate debate about key issues. 3. Lack of Commitment Without airing opinions in the course of passionate and open debate, team members will not buy into decisions. 4. Avoidance of Accountability Without commitment, team members duck the responsibility to call out peers on performance or behaviors that might hurt the team. 5. Inattention to Results Team members place their individual needs (ego, career development, recognition) above the collective goals of the team. Remember: Awareness is key. Are you focusing on the issue or the person? As a leader, one of your most critical responsibilities is to maintain harmony within your team.  No matter how well you manage your team, disagreements, and conflicts can still arise. Such disunity can create discord among team members, which can impact the team’s productivity and overall success. As a leader, it is essential to defuse discord to promote a positive team environment. Focus on the issue, not the person. When addressing conflict, it is important to hone in on the issue, not the person. Avoid making personal attacks or attacking someone’s character. Instead, focus on the issue at hand and work toward finding a solution.
