#ICYMI The resumption of FTA negotiations, notably between the EU and the Philippines, alongside recommenced talks for an EU-Thailand FTA, signals a renewed commitment to deepening economic ties between the EU and ASEAN. In a recent statement, Chris Humphrey, Executive Director of the EU-ASEAN Business Council, shared an optimistic outlook for the free trade agreement negotiations between the Philippines and the European Union. Under the current Marcos administration, he notes a high chance of success for the deal, citing fewer policy concerns and a stable political environment. This could open up new avenues for economic growth and collaboration between the EU and the Philippines. #europeanunion #trade #implementation #enforcement The value of EU trade covered by the vast network of 42 agreements with 74 partners in place in 2023 was more than €2.3 trillion, having risen by over 30% over the past five years, according to the Annual Report on the implementation and enforcement of EU trade policy published today. EU exports to preferential trade partners are increasing more steadily than our overall exports – our preferential agreements with South Korea with Canada, for example, each deliver an average export growth of 7% annually – and have made the EU more resilient in the face of global challenges by providing safer, more diverse sources of supply for our imports and markets for our exports. The European Commission has also removed 140 barriers to EU exports in more than 40 countries over the past five years. The removal of barriers between 2018-2022 unlocked an additional €6.2 billion of EU exports in 2023 alone. FULL REPORT 👇

Great to attend the lunch event on politicisation of trade policy and its impact on transatlantic trade relations with Director-General Weyand, hosted by the Jean Monnet Network on Transatlantic Trade Politics, the University of Antwerp and CEPS. Interesting comments on the dynamics between the EU Member States and European Commission on export controls (hint - there is scope for improvement). #trade #DGTRADE #exportcontrols #EU
