What does India's growth story look like, beyond the numbers in the media? On my last visit to India, I was invited to be a panelist for the NRI(Non-Resident Indian) Summit organised by the Mayor of Indore, and District Magistrate and the likes. Indore is a tier-2 city in central India, and has been winning the title of the "Cleanest city of India" for last several years, and is also my (adoptive) home town, so I was curious to know what the "growth story" looks like for the common man, and how people like me could get involved. Some of the examples presented blew my mind: * The city is home to many temples, attracting thousands of devotees every week, making customary offerings of flowers, producing tons of bio waste. Now, this waste is turned into compost on-premise and sold at Rs.2 per kg(less than 2p in GBP) retail. Faith plays a big part in a spiritual country like India, and using faith to drive a "green" revolution is the key. . * The Indore Municipal Corporation is one of the first of its kind to issue Green Bonds to raise money for the installation of a 60 MW Ground Mounted Captive Solar PV Power Plant. So when I asked him how I - who doesn't live in the city, contribute to its growth? He quipped - by "investing" in it!
