A reverse job fair flips traditional job fairs on their head - instead of organisations promoting themselves, it's participants instead. The aim of the Reverse Job Fair is to equip disabled, neurodivergent, and/or chronically ill professionals with skills to support them into paid work and facilitate inclusive employment opportunities at the fair itself. Last week, we had the opportunity to attend the 'Unlocking Construction' job fair at HMP Lewes. We were fortunate to bring along a gulley truck and provide a demonstration in the recreation yard. This was a first of its kind experience at HMP Lewes sparking conversations within the prison about opportunities for offenders on release. Hiring ex-offenders is not only a social responsibility but also a strategic business decision with numerous benefits. It promotes fairness and equality, provides opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives, and helps break the cycle of crime, contributing to a more stable society. Ex-offenders often show exceptional dedication and gratitude for employment opportunities, which can result in high retention rates and a strong work ethic. They bring unique perspectives and skills that enhance creativity and problem-solving within teams.
