On July 31, 2024, ESGM® (ESG Moneta Co., Ltd.), in collaboration with the Energy Kyungje Newspaper, released ESG evaluation results for 149 financial companies, including 76 listed and 73 unlisted firms. The evaluations revealed significant discrepancies between ESG rankings and market assessments, highlighting the need for comprehensive ESG evaluations that include unlisted financial institutions. The top performers among listed companies were Mirae Asset Securities, NH Investment & Securities, and SK Securities. The overall rankings, considering both listed and unlisted companies in financial holding companies, showed Shinhan in total, KB Financial Group leading in governance and BNK Financial Group excelling in social responsibility and NH in environment. The findings emphasize the importance of including unlisted firms in ESG assessments for accurate value enhancement and index calculations. This year’s campaign has expanded to include infrastructure companies for the first time, in addition to listed real estate companies and REITs, resulting in an engagement rate higher than ever before. “It’s great to see global investors using the weight of capital to encourage companies to improve their management of ESG issues.
