 🤝 Freeport East and East Midlands Freeport announce new partnership for a #green freight corridor to support the #decarbonisation of #transport along one of the UK's most important transport routes.   🎉 The new initiative will target greater #investment to support the decarbonisation of transport, including in the rail sector at Ely, Haughley Junction and new rail-freight terminals in the Midlands. 🌳 Cleaner fuels and new technologies to support the road, rail and maritime sector will also be a focus, alongside accelerating the opportunities for enhancing skills and employment arising from greener transport. Our Freeport East Director and Mid Suffolk District Councillor, Rachel Eburne, said: "Transport emissions must be cut if we are to meet net zero targets, so we welcome this agreement between Freeport East and East Midlands Freeport and hope it will inspire even wider collaboration, ideas and action. This morning’s Parliamentary Transport Committee session brought together industry leaders to discuss critical matters in the maritime and rail sectors. Key Participants: Chris Shirling-Rooke MBE, Chief Executive Officer of Maritime UK, Steve Freemen, representing RailX, Ben Garratt, from Logistics UK, When Karl McCartney MP raised the question about the significance of revitalising East-West rail freight between the Humber and the Mersey, Chris Shirling-Rooke emphasised its importance. His words resonated: “We need that link from the Humber to create more jobs.” Drawing from a recent visit to Hull, where he met with Humber Marine and Renewables, Chris asserted, “The data is there, and we should do it.” My opinion is the connection between the Humber and the Mersey holds immense potential. By revitalising rail freight, we can stimulate economic growth not just for the Humber or the Mersey but the whole of northern England. Hupac Group's volumes in general fell by 11.7 per cent, from 975,000 to 845,000 road consignments. In financial terms, this translated into a “consolidated result” of -6,2 million euros. Transalpine volumes, the largest market segment for the company, decreased by 7.6 per cent.
