MENTAL HEALTH AT WORK IS SERIOUS & WE NEED CHANGE. A friend shared her disturbing story w/ me that proves we have to try harder to provide a healthy work environment for all. She’s an incredible person who gives 110% always. So, how does an overachiever get fired? For being unable to manage emotions? Most never disclose MH at work and I was surprised she did because she thrives in high stress environments. Why disclose? Because she was at capacity. The stress wasn’t work - it was anxiety. She says, “Imagine dominating 2 demanding senior roles w/ an inexperienced team, being exhausted, AND beaten to do others’ work.” For a perfectionist, that is DEBILITATING! A COO once asked how to help her relax. Should she have explained conditions in her brain make that inpossible? How emotional regulation is difficult? Instead, they talked politics of the people asking her to do their work. We need to educate companies to: - Train to recognize signs of MH struggles. You don’t need to be a Dr to see someone is struggling managing emotions. - Small support = Big difference. - Recognize MH doesn’t determine fit for the environment but having a safe space to get help determines fit for the employee. To those suffering - It’s not your fault and it affects every aspect of life. Please join me on my journey to raise awareness about Mental Health. And if you’re struggling with MH at work, DM me for resources!

Agreed. Mental health awareness and support must be a core component of an organization's culture.
