There’s another company riding the artificial intelligence wave with faster growth than GPU manufacturer Nvidia: Supermicro. The company expects its total revenue to double in fiscal 2024 over fiscal 2023 and its AI revenue to grow even faster. Charles Liang founded Supermicro the same year as Nvidia, in 1993. They were headquartered within 10 miles of each other, which helped foster a 30-plus-year relationship wherein Supermicro’s motherboards and systems incorporated Nvidia chips, particularly its GPUs that have become the base on which much of today’s AI infrastructure is built. “So whatever Nvidia develops, we pretty much sync up with them,” CEO and President Liang said. “And that’s another reason why, whenever they have a new product out, we have a new product available quicker than our competitors do.” Read Liang’s interview with Joseph Kovar to learn more about the AI powerhouse.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is set to host the latest installment of his GPU Technology Conference (GTC) - almost 15 years after the first event took place. "Nvidia has been on a roller coaster ride since the start of the generative AI boom, as everyone from Sam Altman to Mark Zuckerberg has been scrambling to secure enough computing power for their AI models by buying up Nvidia's chips, known as GPUs. NVIDIA's earnings report last week showed that it surpassed Intel Corporation in annual revenue, mainly thanks to high demand for its data center GPUs driven by generative AI interest. Since the #AI boom, the key drivers of Nvidia’s revenue have shifted significantly. Today, data center processors for analytics and #AI have quickly become Nvidia’s largest source of revenue, surpassing the company’s historical main business line of GPUs (graphic processing units). Given the surging demand for hardware that drives AI models, Nvidia’s revenues reached $22.1 billion in the last quarter—a 265% jump from the year before.
