What powerful conversation today National Collaborative for Health Equity convening with three amazing and inspiring women — Dr. Tiffany Manuel TheCaseMade, Tambra Raye Stevenson WANDA: Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics & Agriculture and Avenel Joseph RWJF!! I was honored to serve as moderator Equal Measure They shared personal stories of place, history, and context impacted their life’s journey of doing systems transformation. And shared specific examples of what policy and systems transformation looks like when applying a truth, racial healing and transformation lens. “Systems built for some not everyone.” “Science, data, research is not enough…” “Data is not always collected for our benefit but our detriment.” “Thought if you could show the data that would be enough. But the more data we had, the more foolish we acted.” “We need to get under narrative change. How do we dismantle.” “We need to be in the room where it happens.” (and we didn’t even shoutout Hamilton 😊) “How can black food heal a community?” “When you position food in a commodified capitalism lens, you will always have poverty.” “Right to food” “Food Bill of Rights” “Everything I saw as my weakness became my superpowers.” “Power mapping” “Structural racism is not just the past but our present.” “We need to make the case for how we want something to happen. That requires doing more to understand counter intelligence.” So many rich nuggets! We could have had another hour and a half!! Thank you ladies!!!
