Following on from yesterday, more Floating Offshore Wind FOW innovation activation! On Monday we took a look at Norway bringing together its NOW corporate collaboration to address 4 key areas for FOW innovation, support with €6m of EU funding; 1️⃣ Optimising Efficiency 2️⃣ Sustainability 3️⃣ Installation 4️⃣ Environmental Impact More news from Europe on another collaborative effort - FLOATFARM. This brings together 17 organisations with a similar EU funding level of approximately €6m to drive forward; ⏩ LCOE Reduction - weight reduction, innovative generators, digital optimisation ⏩ Marine Components - platform, morring, cabling configurations, systems efficiencies ⏩ Offshore Farm Optimisation - aerodynamics, synchronised turbine controllers, platform motion ⏩ Mooring & Anchor Concepts - testing & validation of installation techniques, dynamic coupling, connected platforms, LCOE impact ⏩ Managing Impact - environmental noise & ecosystem challenges, public perception and acceptance,. This collaboration involves more Universities and Engineering consultancies, less large scale corporates than the Norwegian NOW project. Although they share some similar aims and objectives, we may well see different approaches and outcomes. 8 countries involved in this one - unfortunately no UK involvement here - have we mistakenly excused ourselves from such EU collaborations post Brexit 🤔 Let's hope the UK sector FOW stakeholder calls for more support, a National Test Facility and clear, strong and long-term policy signals from thew new Gov. are heeded. Alongside the all important funding for innovation we need to optimise our technologies and infrastructure. They have released onshore wind planning constraints already - will we see Sir Kier also back FOW extensively through the pending, yet slightly mysterious, GB Energy? #floatingoffshorewind #fowinnovation #rennewableenergy Image Credit; Iberdola

OFFSHORE WIND. Today my colleague Wannes Vanheusden and I presented our 3E and DLA Piper study on #repowering the #offshorewind concessions of the Belgian eastern wind zone to stakeholders. On demand of Belgian Minister of energy Tinne Van der Straeten and the FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy , we made a qualitative and quantitative assessment of several repowering scenarios, aiming to maximise future production, including #offshoresolar, while minimizing repowering losses in the transition. The study is a first of a kind, which is exactly the kind of innovative, complex advisory we like to do. Repowering is coming and EU governments and offshore wind operators better be prepared. #Offshore #Power to X reaching money time and new world challenges.. As evidenced by recent multiple projects cancellations (Dogger Bank D, Gigastack, HT1), Green #hydrogen produced offshore is still not economically viable in the current cost scheme and regulatory framework. A higher #carbon tax is crucial to make those projects competitive against grey hydrogen production.
The HT1 project was designed around Vattenfall’s 97 MW Aberdeen #offshorewind farm, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC). #renewableenergy #greenhydrogen

OFFSHORE WIND. 3E and DLA Piper have conducted a study on the #repowering of the current #offshorewind concessions in the Belgian #northsea for the Belgian government Tinne Van der Straeten FOD Economie / SPF Economie / FPS Economy. Here are some conclusions: ☑ Optimal repowering in 4 larger concessions could lead to almost 10TWh of annual production, up >40% from current production. ☑ New rules on end-of-concessions and lifetime extensions are needed to avoid production loss in transition to the new zones ☑ Repowering could start with an "innovation concession" to test lifetime extension, innovative cable pooling with offshore solar, recycling of foundations and/or new turbine types. 👉 Learn more about it by reading our study : https://lnkd.in/ebbbqK_K #offshorewind #northsea #ostenddeclaration Alec Van Vaerenbergh Astrid Van laer Cédric Martens Bob Martens Glenn Van Ruyskensvelde Matilde Coppye Ruben Baetens Wannes Vanheusden Nicolas Meerts Marie Angot Riccardo Longo WindEurope Belgian Offshore Platform Jo Robbelein Lieve Jorens An Stroobandt Windpower Monthly Johan Vande Lanotte

Milestones in renewable energy are always worth celebrating, especially when they signify progress towards a more sustainable future 🌱. Navantia Seanergies recently marked a significant achievement by producing the first monopile foundation for Iberdrola's UK offshore wind project, East Anglia Three, at their Fene shipyard in Spain. The monopile, a structural foundation marvel, boasts a diameter of up to 10.6 metres and a staggering weight of 1,800 tonnes—talk about engineering prowess! With the Navantia, S.A., S.M.E-Windar Renovables consortium set to deliver 45 monopiles, and Haizea Wind Group providing an additional 50 under separate contracts, the foundational work of this project is undoubtedly in capable hands. This effort complements the delivery of 95 transition pieces by Windar Renovables, illustrating the collaborative power of the renewable sector. Upon completion, the wind farm will populate the Suffolk coast with 95 Siemens Gamesa turbines capable of generating 1.4 GW. I'm sure many of us are keen to see the turbines spinning by 2026, knowing the positive impact they will have on our energy mix. East Anglia Three forms a part of the broader GBP 6.5 billion East Anglia Hub, set to catalyse our transition to greener energy sources across the UK. With this initiative, we are witnessing yet another step towards harnessing the full potential of offshore wind, reducing carbon footprints and fortifying the commitment to a sustainable energy future. #renewableenergy #offshorewind #engineering #carbon60 #wind #energy
