Many countries are providing fiscal support to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. How effective are these tax incentives? Do they equally reach high and low-income households? What are further policy measures to consider? We were delighted to welcome Askill H. Halse (Transportøkonomisk institutt (Norwegian Centre for Transport Research), Laurent Franckx (Federal Planning Bureau) and Tamara Sheldon (University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business) to explore these and further questions. A big thank you to the panelists and Patrick Lenain for hosting the discussion. 🎦 Watch the webinar: https://lnkd.in/ded6MeGW

This Opinion article in today's The New York Times highlights some of the issues relating to the recent EPA announcement to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by 2032. "From the point of view of swing-voter outreach in a presidential election year, however, the new rules seem like a pretty reckless bet. Explicitly seeking the rapid disappearance of the kinds of automobiles used by the vast majority of Americans would be politically fraught under any circumstances. It’s even more fraught in an election where states like Michigan hold the key to an Electoral College victory." "And it is especially fraught at a time when higher interest rates have made automobile loans more expensive for the American consumer — who is in effect now being told by an unpopular incumbent president: “If you like your car, I don’t want you to keep it" #electricvehicles #energy #electricity #energytransition #energypolicy #infrastructure #resiliency #reliability
