Nurses at UW Health have been early adopters of generative AI in Epic, using it to automatically draft responses to patient messages. Their hands-on experience with this technology—known as Art, or augmented response technology—has been crucial. "Whether it's telephone calls or MyChart messages, a lot of that interaction is coming through the nurse, so it's just really cool that this is a tool that we can utilize to help with everyday work that we're doing," said Amanda Weber, registered nurse clinical supervisor at UW Health. "We have the option to provide direct feedback on what worked and what didn't work with particular responses that were generated. Any improvements or recommendations that we have, we can input that right then and there." We appreciate you and your close collaboration, UW nurses! So exciting to partner with Epic and our UW Health teams to bring this technology to our care teams. It's amazing to reflect on how Art at UW Health has evolved from a tiny (but mighty) group of early adopters to the group we have today. Can't wait to keep growing and making a difference in your everyday!
UW Health Epic As you know, Dr. Google, Google Bard/Gemini, and Chatgpt can give limited health advice now too...and in years to come I predict that AI/Professionals could give better detailed medical advice for the patient themselves or as a draft message for the nurse/doctor - based on inputs from the EHR, wearables, smart devices, etc. - as well as summarizing the patient's "story" - all to give the patient the best possible personalized holistic diagnosis and treatment/coaching on a 24/7 basis, which would be especially useful for those with chronic conditions. I've recently started integrating AI into some of my applications, and it’s been a fascinating journey. I believe many developers, like myself, admire Epic for its incredible software. I think it would be incredibly valuable if Epic had a developer blog to share insights and experiences. Specifically, I’d love to learn about the challenges of incorporating AI at such a large scale and how they were overcome.
Would like to see this adopted at Kettering Health

1moHello Epic! I was wondering how do individuals like myself take courses to become certified in Epic without being employed by a healthcare system? Does Epic offer courses to individuals just wanting to advance their careers?
