Funding of the arts has historically been complicated. Many museums have regained their visitor numbers as per pre-Covid-19, but visitors don't fund the majority of what is needed to keep museums open. Will the next generations philanthropic gaze produce enough funds to keep 'the arts' seen and heard? #art #music #museums #culture #funding #legacy #humanities "The perpetually embattled realm of museums received a rare bit of good news this week. In its annual Visitor Figures survey, the Art Newspaper reported that many of the world’s top museums have seen their visitorship return to pre-Covid-19 levels." However, "there is arguably greater financial trouble for museums looming in the future...the majority of this philanthropy comes from an aging cohort—for all the flack boomers get, they’ve played a substantial role in funding the arts. As the Art Newspaper pointed out in January, as this demographic begins to die out, younger members of the donor class have failed to pick up the slack."

What are Mexico's Colima dogs doing in the Parthenon? 🐕🏛️ These Mexican artifacts came to the museum as donations, previously collected by community-members while abroad. BRIDGE Coming up! Please Register and join us! “It matters what stories we tell to tell other stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what descriptions describe descriptions, what ties tie ties.”
ANNOUNCEMENT: UPCOMING EVENT!! PLEASE REGISTER AND ATTEND! 🌍✨ BRIDGE Unbound Stories: Weaving Our Stories Into the Rafters A day of weaving stories into the rafters of the Fiber Art Studio with Izzeddin Hawamda, Monica Martens, and Alexandra Ross “It matters what stories we tell to tell other stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what descriptions describe descriptions, what ties tie ties.” Donna Haraway, Staying with the Trouble Description All are welcome to attend a day-long workshop to explore the art of storytelling together with the ancient practice of tying rafters. August 31st, 11am-4pm $25 admission fee covers coffee & tea along with light refreshments. Bring your own bag lunch. This event is hosted by community members in partnership with Bridge. Donations welcome to support building a soccer field in the West Bank. Both the practice of storytelling and the practice of tying rafters are ancient crafts that date back to the paleolithic. Rather than securing buildings with nails or screws, intersections were tied with rope, secured with a series of wraps and knots. While it is impossible to recover the lost traditions that might have accompanied this craft, by bringing these two practices together it is possible to re-imagine them into a contemporary meaning making practice which help to reconnect settlers to kinship with each other and the more-than-human world. The Storytelling will be guided by notions of narrative weaving, or “Snabeel” the “wheat shaft” in Arabic. This is the intricate art of crafting by interlacing various threads to create a cohesive and compelling whole. Narrative weaving is tending the place where numerous stories meet, intersect, and influence other stories, giving birth to new narratives and experiences. Throughout the day participants are invited to engage in experiential learning, personal reflection and storytelling. The day will be divided into listening and learning, as well as practice sessions for both narrative weaving and for traditional knot tying. The day will culminate in crafting a new rafter tying ceremony combined with a sharing circle. At the end of the day participants will have heard many personal stories, learned an ancient craft, and have been invited to share their own personal narratives. https://lnkd.in/gF7biWMS
