What an inspiring second day at the CIEX - Chemical Innovation Exchange event! The day started with Sibel Selcuk sharing her powerful experience at The Heritage Group on how innovation must happen from the top and how 'innovation is not necessarily invention' (she had a great cartoon about this!)   Followed by David Hatrick from Huntsman Corporation who gave tips on how to create the agile R&D organisation of the future while focusing on ‘delivering value for our owners’.   Dr. Jens Kubitschke from LEVACO Chemicals GmbH continued on the agility theme urging us to ‘’break down the organisation silos’’ and build cross-functional and diverse teams.   We also had a fascinating panel discussion on orchestrating an innovation re-bound in Europe. While ‘innovation theatre’ was decried by Markus Bold, head Chemovator at BASF who insisted on the need to ‘connect your research world to your customer world’, Pierre-Alain Weiss from Chemische Fabrik Budenheim urged us to switch from customer-centricity to market-centricity.   Finally Marianne Lyngsaae from Brenntag and her Danish GEAR project on Circular Economy in the Chemical industry were particularly inspiring, showing that it is possible and actually happening and there is even funding available for it! As John Metselaar, chair for the day, asked, "what are you going to do now?"
