ECS was honored to host Damon Bethea, MA, CDP, Manager, Building for Success in Schools and Life from United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania at our school recently, showcasing the vibrant culture of learning and innovation that thrives here at ECS. 🌟 The awarded grant funds will be a game-changer for our STEM curriculum and activities, supplementing our current offerings in profound ways. At ECS, we believe in showcasing the process of learning, not just the final product. By creating spaces where students can share their evolving ideas, like remiX lab and robotics, we foster a culture of creativity and exploration. With the grant, we'll be able to extend this philosophy further by: 🎨 Bridging connections with art and design; supporting the development of technical skills infused with creativity. 💭 Introduction of design thinking practices to both students and adults; instilling curiosity, optimism, and creative courage in tackling complex problems. 💡Empowerment to bring ideas to life, from ideation to prototyping, all while considering sustainability principles. This access extends beyond the classroom, creating even more opportunity for experiential learning. By aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we're not just fostering innovation; we're nurturing a generation of global citizens who understand the interconnectedness of the world. With the support of the United Way grant, ECS is poised to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to shape a brighter, more sustainable future. #STEMEducation #Innovation #UnitedWayGrant #FutureLeaders

Co-founder and Team Lead, Project STEM EVOLUTION|Teach for Nigeria Alumna|Education equity campaigner|Development policy enthusuast |Environment|Bioscientist|Global Health
Day 17: My proudest moment as a fellow. Counting significant moments in my fellowship not only makes me feel proud but also humbled and grateful at the same time. I have had these children for six terms. Now that they are almost closing their primary five chapters, they are still able to connect the present learning with previous knowledge. In the environment where I serve, learners tend to forget what they learned in the previous term, which makes them score less in science, technology, and mathematics in their welcome rest, due to learning losses. I am proud to say that after executing the STEM Evolution and all the embedded programs, lifelong learning has come to stay in school. Being in the picture of their transformation gladdens my heart and shows my role in education development in underdeveloped communities. My "one child," Gbadamosi Quayum, not only understands science concepts but now teaches his fellow students in class. He doesn't have study textbooks, but he would come borrow mine to read. He also likes to discuss things with me and ask me questions. I feel proud when he and other learners look at pictures or chats and say, Mister Osagie, you taught us this; you have taught us that. It tells me that my learning approach works and that I have been a part of their growth. In addition, a boy by the name of Lateef has not missed school since I encouraged him. I am proud to be a part of a global network, flipping the education script in rural communities and giving hope to these children. #TeachForNigeria #TFNImpactStories #TFNLeaders #TFN2022Fellows #TFNSchoolLeaders #TFN2024Graduation #TFN2024GraduationCountdown

Such interesting insights from the Learning Creates Australia report, Learning Beyond Limits: "In this pivotal era in education, the time is right to have a meaningful conversation about the purpose of learning. We know that In the 21st Century, we can recognise achievement in far more sophisticated ways than exams or test scores alone, as these point-in-time assessments do not reflect the breadth and depth of what young people know and can do. The current education system is under strain. Australia’s performance against international education benchmarks like PISA has fallen over the last twenty years. Despite the fact that Australia delivers longer hours of education than other countries, we’re not reaping the rewards. Teacher wellbeing is falling and burnout is increasing. Up to 70 per cent of teachers are contemplating leaving the profession even though they have a strong sense of belonging. Young people aren’t thriving, nor is the teaching workforce. The world has changed significantly since the current model of schooling was introduced. Our education system is doing its best, but we cannot keep on applying bandaid reform solutions. We need a system that can build and recognise the breadth of skills and capabilities that young people possess so they can successfully navigate a complex world. We need to engage all young people in learning that is relevant to their lives. We need a system that reduces professional isolation by supporting teacher collaboration. We can re-engage teachers by valuing and respecting their capacity to deploy their skills creatively to support each young person to achieve learning success."
