🌈📚Everyone on Board: why diversity on the school governing board matters 🎓Inspiring Governance is taking action to encourage governing boards to diversify, encouraging more young and more Black and global majority volunteers to take up decision-making roles on school governing boards 🌎Without the breadth of informed support and challenge they need to make vital decisions on education, for today’s increasingly diverse generation of students, it can leave many boards with potential blind spots. Research shows diverse governing boards function better, they cover all the angles, and they help schools fulfil their strategic role on race 💚Could you join forces with a local school to help make sure all children and young people get the best start in life? Find out more about signing up to become a governor with Inspiring Governance and look out for roles on Charterpath 's Opportunities webpages – you might just inspire a future governor yourself! 💬Here's what Jasmin, a teacher and school governor from London, says about why she decided to volunteer on the governing board: “I wanted to become a governor because I realised there were not many people that looked like me. People that were women of colour, people that were dyslexic, people that were young. I wanted to bring fresh energy, a good vibe, and a different perspective to help support and challenge schools about how they best deliver for their pupils." Happy National FFA Week! Thursday, February 22, is Give FFA Day. While I have so many reasons to give to #FFA, I do want to share one specific reason that should matter to all of us. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the share of high school students reporting “persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness” has risen from 28% to 42% in the last 10 years. While many researchers are trying to identify the specific causes for this dramatic increase in hopelessness among youth, I believe the National FFA Organization is part of the solution. FFA curates experiences for young people that take them out of their comfort zone. These experiences broaden their perspective and build resiliency skills. FFA advisors challenge students, celebrating their wins and coaching them through their losses. FFA members build relationships with peers and mentors that positively influence their identity development and foster a sense of belonging and community. Not every FFA chapter or FFA experience is perfect. But I’ve had the opportunity to see this all happen in real-time. And for hundreds of thousands of youth each year, it is FFA that keeps them engaged and supported. And youth who are engaged and supported feel hopeful. So if you want to support a cause to help youth, #GiveFFADay may be the way. Credit to Blaze Currie https://lnkd.in/dwNVw88F

A majority of the support received by newcomers in recovery is given completely on a volunteer basis by dedicated individuals in the rooms of recovery fellowships. Service work creates volunteers who are dedicated to their own sobriety and to the sobriety of others. We would be remiss not to recognize and thank both these individuals IN recovery, and ALL those who help us at Fellowship Hall through our many events. From our Walk for Recovery, to the Golf Tournament, to the Conference—we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you all. Thank you to ALL volunteers! Looking for a way to get on the path to recovery? We’re here to help.
