Australia Day a celebration for all that call Australia home. As Australia Day approaches, and as this day celebrates all Australians, We are one We are Australian, it is interesting to view the wonderful mix of citizens that make up our inclusive society. The heritage statistics of the population of Australia? Australia's population was 26,638,544 people at 30 June 2023. At the 2021 census, the most commonly nominated individual ancestries as a proportion of the total population were: * English (33%) * Australian (29.9%) * Irish (9.5%) * Scottish (8.6%) * Chinese (5.5%) * Italian (4.4%) * German (4%) * Aboriginal (3.8%) Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) estimates indicate that 984,000 First Nations people are living in Australia, representing 3.8% of the total Australian population. At the 2021 census, 1,390,637 Australian residents identified themselves as having Chinese ancestry, accounting for 5.5% of the total population. Given that Federal, State and LGA’s and Corporations no longer support Australia Day, and in some cases advocate that the 26th of January is not a day we all should celebrate, I wonder how long it will be before these Governments supposedly elected to represent all Australians, as one Nation, might choose to push further aside our National flag to now include other minority heritage groups flags on our institutional buildings and landmarks. It seems to me that we were once one Nation of cohesive people under one Flag. Now we see more than one flag flying on Landmarks and we are being driven by the Elites (so called) to be a divided country under as many minority communities flags as are deemed appropriate by these power hungry anti Australians , not a Nation of all under one Flag and Laws of the land, but one divided into groups by bureaucrats and leftist politicians that wish to divide us so they keep control. United we stand, divided we fall! Long live Australia as one nation, self sufficient and productive for all. We are one we are all Australians. Stand up Australia to those trying to destroy our Nation and inclusive successful democracy.

Today at the UN Ocean Decade Conference, there was a special event exploring “What can the National Decade Committees do for you?” The UN Ocean Decade (2021-2030) aims to realize our vision for the ocean, yet as Professor Matthew Frost highlighted, this requires action at the national level. There are 38 National Decade Committees so far, with more in development. They help increase a country’s participation in the Ocean Decade. Their contributions may include facilitating endorsed Decade Actions, such as the recent endorsement of Ocean Census as a UN Ocean Decade programme. #OceanDecade #OceanCensus #Hydrospatial

Happy to share our (Thomas Sigler, Jonathan Corcoran, and Elin Charles-Edwards) most recent work on #shorttermrental (STR) markets in Australia published in Regional Studies, Regional Science (RSRS). We highlight the significant subnational market shifts towards regional markets as well as a marked trend towards the professionalisation of STR. These results signify a new market equilibrium is forming with more nuanced interactions with the regional, rather than capital city, #housing market.

Communities need to reinvest in themselves and try to plan for growth. They can't just stay the same for 30 or 40 years because the infrastructure is aging, the population/demographics are changing, the needs of the residents and businesses change, technology and legislation is changing. Trying to stay the same by doing nothing while everything changes around you really just ends up with a community withering away. This short news clip is a good example of a community choosing not to invest in itself and plan for change, so unintended consequences and change are imposed on it, and the community has no control of those consequences because it chose to do nothing. https://lnkd.in/dEUNXEJd
