GE Vernova and IHI to develop 100% ammonia capable combustor under JDA. By Edward Laity GE Vernova and IHI Corporation will jointly develop a gas turbine combustor capable of using hydrogen-produced ammonia for power generation. Under a Joint Development Agreement (JDA), the two companies will progress to the next phase of technology and engineering for the project, expected to be compatible with GE Vernova’s 6F.03, 7F, and 9F gas turbines. The combustion is set to take place in IHI’s Japanese facilities, where the technology concepts will be evaluated for its ability to meet key operational requirements and the impact on the entire power plant. Element Materials Technology, a London-headquartered provider of Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) services, is making the first of a series of investments out of a $10-million investment program. This includes acquiring new state-of-the-art #hydrogen #testing equipment and expanding its global hydrogen team. This investment will enable Element to meet the growing demand from customers transitioning to cleaner #energy solutions and incorporating hydrogen in various product life cycles and systems.   To bolster its capabilities, Element has developed specialized static and dynamic fracture mechanics equipment for its laboratories in the UK and Europe. This equipment enables hydrogen testing at pressures of up to 100 barg, frequencies below 1 Hz, and at cryogenic temperatures of up to -269°C, in a variety of test frame configurations. Positioned to serve the UK and European markets, these capabilities support global pipeline infrastructures during the energy transition, helping to understand fracture mechanics and hydrogen's impact. The equipment will be used to assess hydrogen infrastructure and #storage systems under varying in-situ temperatures and pressures.

ERA Funding Approved for a Commercial Demonstration Minister Rebecca Schulz announced on July 12, 2024, the approval of $1.5 million in funding from the Government of Alberta through Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Emerging Innovators Challenge to support the detailed engineering design, fabrication, and field operation of a commercial demonstration of the EKST technology. The project will be completed by December 2025. This funding opens the door to the final technology development step before the commercial rollout of the ST Technology. This technology has the potential to be a game changer in the site decontamination business.
