It's a gift when you meet someone who you always know is going to tell it like it is. Particularly when they are smart, experienced, and open to learning. Thank you Trina Sunday and Reimagine HR for this conversation that I think is one of the most important I have had on record for a long time. This started when I wrote about how mental health and psychosocial safety was triggering a shift to OHS from traditional HR domains. I was called to the podcast mat on it and I loved this conversation. I've always valued our conversations and Trina's thought leadership and practice in HR is next level. * Most organisations are not structuring and aligning their functions to give mental health, psychological safety, and performance a fighting chance at making a difference * EAPs are not fit for purpose, nor effective for the vast majority of wellbeing issues (Even simply the fact that the vast majority are in need of more support, and the vast majority won't use it. * This space is changing so fast legally, ethically, organisationally and psychologically. It needs courage (and metrics). There is very little of either currently. Love to know your thoughts on where your organisation sits. https://lnkd.in/g-4URjbE CBH Group The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia Western Power Crown Resorts Angela Edwards Cass Wright Sam Retallack Paul Andrew Rio Tinto Minderoo Foundation Fabio Intorre Clough Matteo Gadda AusIMM Perenti Paul Hendry CMIOSH Fiona O'Donnell https://lnkd.in/g-4URjbE
Mental well-being at work: fruit bowls, Employee Assistance Programs and a bunch of initiatives and projects that are not hitting the mark. Ouch! Peta Slocombe from Performance Story joins Trina to chat about mental wellbeing in workplaces, and the disconnect between leaders, safety and HR. Tune in and let us know your thoughts! You will find the video recording in our Resource Hub, the link can be found in the comments below. #reimaginehr #mentalwellbeingatwork #mentalhealth #culture #hrdonedifferently #hrgamechanger #hrconsultantperth

#HRProfessionals often find themselves pouring from an empty cup. They play a crucial role in bridging day-to-day operations with long-term strategic goals, as highlighted by recent SHRM research. This research shows that 95% of HR professionals take pride in their work, finding it both meaningful and purposeful. Yet, managing employee needs, cultural dynamics, and strategic initiatives demands not just professional acumen but also emotional intelligence and resilience. However, it's important to recognize the toll these responsibilities can take on mental health. Nearly half of HR professionals report a negative impact on their mental well-being due to their roles. This underscores the high-pressure environment they work in, balancing operational backbone duties with strategic vision. As we acknowledge HR professionals' invaluable contributions to organizational success, we must prioritize robust support systems to protect their mental health. Investing in their well-being isn't just about care; it's a strategic necessity for business health. Let's create environments where HR teams can thrive, safeguarding their mental health as diligently as they protect our organizational cultures and values. Bringing more and more awareness to mental health in the workplace is the first step we can take to making a positive impact on our mental wellbeing as well as the employees we are pouring into. I’m amoung those 93% who find the work we do as HR Professionals meaningful and intrinsically rewarding. This drives me to pour more of myself into the work without regard to my personal and family needs. My advice: work at a company you are proud to pour yourself into, set boundaries (don’t compromise those boundaries) and learn how to refill your own cup.
