How would you feel flying on an aircraft that was built 50 years ago? With supply chains issues causing delays on aircraft deliveries, airlines are keeping aircraft in operation for longer, sometimes much longer! A Boeing 737-200, with the serial number 20836, made its maiden flight in 1974. It now sports the tail number C-GNLK, and is in operation with Nolinor Aviation in Canada. So, is it safe? Industry opinion says yes, but with a caveat. It is all about the maintenance regime. If looked after properly, and flight cycles have been monitored, then physical age is not the main criteria for safe flight. Tony always loves to mix it up (just a little). Sure it's a negotiating tactic but perhaps seeing his group's profile this is not a bad idea. #COMAC has a target group of airlines that could operate in the marketplace without worrying about those pesky regulators like EASA and FAA. Examples would be not just Air Asia group (Malaysia) but also Vietjet (Vietnam) and Lion (Indonesia who has already certified COMAC aircraft on their registry). The 3 groups represent a significant fleet of replacement aircraft for the current duopoly (#Boeing #Airbus). Sure there is a sizeable amount of work to do - but COMAC has one thing going for it above all else. #Time. What do you think?

🛬 'TENERIFE CALLING ON LINE 1' ? I usually post about aviation events in which communication breakdown is a factor. This event seems different to me. ⚫ On May 6, 2024 American Airlines flight AA2473 was cleared to take off from Orlando International Airport in Florida, USA. ⚫ Moments later, the same ATCO cleared Frontier Airlines flight F91734 to cross the same runway as it headed toward its gate. ⚫ At a speed of about 60 knots, the AA pilot noticed the runway traffic and rejected takeoff. ⚫ It took several moments for the ATCO to realize what was going on and order (redundantly) that the takeoff be aborted. Some thoughts: 🟧 The ATCO seemed very relaxed about the incident. Is this a sign of his inexperience or experience? 🟧 I understand it’s too easy to ‘kick a man when he’s down’. No doubt the FAA is working hard to improve the current sitiation. Just this week the U.S. House of Representatives approved the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. 🟧 Should this incident be added to the box labelled “US Controllers Understaffed and Overworked” or are there other factors to consider?
