It is devastating to watch wildfires ravage your country every year, taking human and animal lives, destroying natural beauty, and damaging properties. Technology and satellites can assist not only in assessing the losses after the fact, but also in developing anticipatory action plans and establishing mechanisms for their implementation. It's high time we act and stop witnessing the same scenes year after year. I am excited to announce that Wildlife Imaging Systems has received a Phase 2 extension to our DOE SBIR award for developing “A Cost-Effective 3D Wildlife Tracking System”! We are going to extend the monitoring work that we currently do in 2D to 3D! Our solution will use the same thermal security cameras we have successfully deployed to monitor wildlife activity and will automatically calibrate itself using only the video collected. With these systems we will be able to do two very important things: * Monitor 3D bat activity around onshore wind turbines to answer questions about how bats are using the airspace under different wind conditions. Are bats flying lower in the RSA when the wind speed is higher due to wind shear? We’ll find out! * Track birds around offshore wind turbines to better characterize collision risk. Bird flight heights, fluxes and avoidance rates are critical inputs into collision risk models (CRM) and our system will be able to measure them. That’s right, we have extended our wildlife monitoring system in the next dimension, 2D -> 3D! Greece becomes the first country to build a national wildfire system using OroraTech’s technology 🥇 ⚠️ Statista reports that In 2023, wildfires in Greece had burned an area of 174,800 hectares.  Its rough, mountainous terrain, and geography spanning over 6,000 islands, makes fighting wildfires in Greece very difficult. 🛰️ To tackle the problem, the Greek government announced its investment into four thermal satellites and a wildfire platform with OroraTech. The $20M investment provides an urgent solution to combating the problem of the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires. 🔥The system for wildfire management is able to detect wildfires before they occur and predict their trajectory. 🔥 Together with a consortium of Greek subcontractors, OroraTech will deliver a system for wildfire management, including ground systems and processing services, as well as a constellation of thermal imaging satellites dedicated to monitoring the entire country of Greece for wildfires. 🇬🇷 OroraTech CEO and CTO Martin Langer said“The world-class know-how of our Greek partners for thermal sensing is instrumental in providing the best solution for this country.
