“Are you more interested in an exotic new design, or… do we stick with what’s proven and known?” Neither. The priority focus should be on enhancing our supersonic cruise missile interceptor capability through reliable, cost effective, improvements, period. This may involve a combination of new system architecture, cheaper manufacturing components/raw materials, supply chain resiliency/onshoring (semiconductors) and the rapid fielding of prototypes that ensure this capability is delivered to the U.S. military in an expeditious manner. Websters does not define “expeditious” as 20 years. #nationalsecurity #defense #defensetechnology #supersonic https://lnkd.in/eci6kbpZ

South Korea for the first time ever and sixth country in the world successfully developed Directional InfraRed CounterMeasures (DIRCM). The Korean precision optical lens supplier 3L-Systems developed Sapphire Dome technology to apply in DIRCM, garnering attention from the high-tech defense industry. 3L-Systems announced that they have supplied their independently developed Sapphire Dome for the DIRCM project, organized by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration together with Hanwha Systems participating as the prototype manufacturing company. The high-hardness infrared Sapphire Dome from 3L-Systems plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of the DIRCM by expanding the field of view for missile guidance systems. DIRCM is a device designed to counter the threat posed by Man-Portable Air-Defence Systems (MANPADS) attacking allied aircraft. When a missile threat is detected on an aircraft, DIRCM, equipped on the aircraft, plays a crucial role in significantly improving the survivability of allied aircraft by emitting high-power infrared lasers (deceptive light source) to disrupt the missiles. Considered essential survival equipment for aircraft, DIRCM has traditionally incorporated foreign equipment. However, through successful domestication, utilizing purely domestic technology from local collaborators, including 3L-Systems, it has not only achieved import substitution but also secured growth momentum for the defense industry. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gkF2X5Pk

The US military received electromagnetic missiles to destroy electronics Until recently, we knew only from science fiction films about weapons that destroy enemy electronics without harming people and buildings. The US Air Force has confirmed that it has created such technology, and it can be deployed using a precision air-to-surface cruise missile (JASSM). The weapon was developed as part of the CHAMP military program. According to Foxtrot Alpha, the technology marks a new type of weapon. The JASSM missile, developed by Lockheed Martin, is an ideal platform for CHAMP as it can be used on bombers and fighters. The possibilities of technology are real and available today. This is an operational system, and it is already in the hands of our tactical air forces, said Maj. Gen. Thomas Masiello of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. In 2022, the aerospace company Boeing conducted a successful flight test of an electromagnetic emitter that disabled computers in a building that simulated an enemy military base. Even security cameras were hit, Boeing said. The missile is equipped with an electromagnetic gun that fires microwave projectiles that cause sudden power surges, affecting all electrical equipment connected to the network. CHAMP program manager Keith Coleman said the technology marks a new era in warfare. According to him, in the near future, this technology will be able to turn enemy electronics into useless bricks even before soldiers or aircraft arrive on the battlefield. However, experts fear that the project could spur an arms race that will force many countries around the world to develop their own electromagnetic weapons. Previously, Professor Trevor Taylor from the Royal United Kingdom Institute of Defense Studies (UK) said that Western countries' high dependence on electronics makes them more vulnerable to electromagnetic attacks. During this year's ILA Berlin (ILA Berlin - Pioneering Aerospace), taking place from June 5 to 9, Diehl Defence presents for the first time a model of the new Light Remote Carrier FEANIX. FEANIX stands for Future Effector - Adaptable, Networked, Intelligent, Xpendable. The Light Remote Carrier (LRC) is characterized by a weight of <300 kilograms and a length of <4 meters. It is a long-range effector which can be launched from the air, from land as well as from sea. Due to its modularity, the LRC is individually equippable with different payloads, from sensors to lethal and non-lethal effectors, depending on the operational scenario and mission. Thanks to the low signature (low observable), the Light Remote Carrier is difficult to detect by the enemy air defence and it makes a valuable contribution to the networked battle management. Besides the mentioned modularity, FEANIX is also characterized by its networking, swarming, robustness and stand-off capability. Remote Carriers are a core element of the international FCAS program, but are also used beyond the FCAS role, which is why Diehl Defence aims for an operational availability well before the FCAS realization period of 2040+. The 2K12 "Kub" mobile surface-to-air missile system is a Soviet low to medium-level air defense system designed to protect ground forces from air attack. Known in the west by its NATO reporting name: SA-6 "Gainful", it was assigned the designation 2K12 by the Soviet ministry of defense. Each SA-6 battery consists of a number of similar tracked vehicles, one of which carries the 1S91 "Straight Flush" 25 kW G/H band radar equipped with a continuous wave illuminator, in addition to an optical sight. The battery also includes four triple-missile transporter erector launchers, referred to as TELs, and four trucks, each carrying three spare missiles and a crane. The TEL is based on a GM-578 chassis, while the 1S91 radar vehicle is based on a GM-568 chassis, all developed and produced by MMZ in Russia. The nose of the missile housed the artifact shown in the video: the 1SB4M Continuous-Wave Semi-Active Homing Coherent Dual Plane Monopulse Seeker. The device employs a parabolic section reflector antenna which produces monopulse sum, and pitch/yaw differential signals. The seeker also uses the difference in Doppler, between the illuminator carrier frequency, and backscatter from the target to estimate the closure rate between the missile and the target. An adaptive tunable narrowband filter is used to reject clutter. The seeker is analogue and in addition to producing pitch/yaw commands for the autopilot, it activates the proximity fuze, which in turn detonates the warhead of the missile. The SA-6 Surface-to-Air Missile was highly effective, as well as having very prolific production numbers. Most sources estimate that over 10,000 missiles were produced. The American counter-part to the SA-6 was the HAWK Surface-to-Air Missile. People who made it and assembled it - huge respect. Top notch engineering, science and tech for it's time and conditions.
