Did you know that the charter school movement has been gaining momentum since the late 1980s, and it's only getting stronger? According to UsNews and World Report, charter schools operated in 35 states back in 2000-2001. Fast forward to today, and that number has risen to 45 states, with West Virginia adopting a charter school law in 2019! 🌎 Enrollment in charter schools has been on the rise, too! 📈 In the 2021-2022 school year, nearly 3.7 million students were enrolled in charter schools nationwide, making up about 7% of all public school students. This is a significant increase from the approximately 2 million students enrolled in charters back in 2011-2012, representing about 4% of public school students. 📚✨ Robin Lake, director of the Center on Reinventing Public Education, points out that investments made in high-quality charter school models in the early 2000s, along with increased demand for more accessible educational opportunities, have fueled this explosive growth. 💥 At RePublic Charter School, we're proud to be a part of this movement, providing innovative and high-quality education to our students and communities. 🏫 Let's keep growing and empowering the next generation of leaders together! 💪 #CharterSchoolSuccess #EducationMatters #RePublicStrong

An Invitation for Stakeholder Engagement As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize educational outcomes, the Duval County School Board is revisiting school boundaries and considering consolidating smaller schools. This strategic approach aims to reduce operational costs and redistribute resources more effectively across larger educational institutions. Are any schools being planned for closure for the upcoming school year, 2024-25? 🤔 None of the consultant’s recommendations are being considered for implementation in 2024-25. The only schools planned for consolidation and closure next year are Pine Estates Elementary and Charger Academy Middle School, which were approved in the original 2019 Master Facilities Plan, with all of these students moving to new or recently renovated school facilities. Engage With Us: Professionals, parents, and community members are encouraged to participate in the dialogue through our public forums or the online survey, shaping the future of our educational landscape. Upcoming forums: - June 10 at the District Administration Building - June 11-20: Multiple locations (See link for details) Detailed proposals and feedback opportunities are available at: duvalschools.org/mfp Your insights are crucial in fostering a robust educational environment in Duval County.

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania will need to spend at least $5.4 billion to close the gap between rich and poor school districts, according to a long-awaited report approved by a divided panel of policymakers Thursday. The report was backed by Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration and won near-unanimous support from legislative Democrats who served on the Basic Education Funding Commission. It recommended changing the formula Pennsylvania uses to fund public schools to reduce year-over-year fluctuations in poorer districts’ state funding, while also calling for increased investments in school construction and an expansion of the education workforce. https://lnkd.in/gPujdHR8

Charter School Management / School Choice Advocate / Policy over Politics / Believer in “Letting Parents Decide” / Not Left, Not Right But Forward / Cafecito y Flan Addict / Pathological Golfer / Fútbol Fanático ⚽️
Yes, the politics around public charter schools have become more challenging, especially in the blue-hued cities where most of the media lives and works. But across vast expanses of urban and semi-urban America, and especially in Black and brown communities where charter schools have proven most popular and effective, there’s still plenty of room to grow, and few policy barriers standing in the way.
New analysis finds charter school sector still has plenty of room to grow

Main message the article: "We need to create a vision and plan that expands the opportunities for families to access quality schools: 1. Identify schools’ most successful current assets and examine how and why they are working to beat the odds for their students. 2. Convene a group of education and civic leaders to define, with input from families and teachers, what quality and best practices mean for Philadelphia schools, and create sensible metrics to measure progress toward ensuring they exist in all of our neighborhoods and catchment areas. 3. This should include leaders of school systems, as well as members of Mayor Parker’s team and City Councilmembers, who all have visions for what quality schools entail. 4. Formulate a comprehensive, long-term plan that strengthens existing quality schools and creates the conditions for more schools to reach this bar. 5. Ensure the people who serve on both the school board nominating panel and the school board are focused on and committed to pursuing this unified vision."
Great article by Stacy Holland, Ed.D. "Elevate 215 is answering the Mayor’s call to action by laying out the steps we believe — based on research, data and feedback from all levels of the education community — the city needs to take to move our schools forward." Franklin Towne Charter High School is lucky to have a partnership with Apply Philly Charter so that we can provide education to the students in the city of Philadelphia. #PHLed #studentsfirst https://lnkd.in/eZ2vHpQb

Late last month, the Pittsburgh School District received new recommendations from a consulting firm in Boston that will guide their updated Facilities Utilization Plan. The plan dictates how the school district should approach changes to grade configurations throughout schools, consolidation of schools, and the closing of specific school buildings. There is no doubt that this plan will have adverse outcomes for majority Black schools in the city, where students have been historically and systemically disenfranchised and underfunded. Too often concerns like declining enrollment or poor academic achievement will be cited in school closures, with little account given to the racially imbalanced institutional standards that have hampered public education for decades. We demand that the city of Pittsburgh put a plan in place to ensure that relocated students have a guided transition and understand the full reasons for the move. Make your voice heard on potential Pittsburgh school closures and visit bit.ly/pghschools

The Public Interest Law Center is compiling excellent updates on this landmark decision at https://lnkd.in/eeaEm3NT.
In just one week, the Governor and state legislature's bipartisan Basic Education Funding Commission will release their plan for a new public school funding system. Their duty is to devise a plan that lives up to the constitution's promise to our students, affirmed by a court order: comprehensive, effective and contemporary public schools in every community, regardless of wealth. Whether they meet this duty will shape the future of Pennsylvania. #publiceducation #pennsylvania #educationlaw
