#LastWeekInCongress: ✔ President Biden signed the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act of 2023 (P.L. 118-51) into law, thereby reauthorizing and bolstering a congressionally mandated grant program for habitat conservation, research and monitoring, and education. ✔ The House Committee on Energy and Commerce advanced the Promoting Resilient Supply Chains Act of 2023 (H.R.6571) to the House floor for a vote. The bill would strengthen domestic supply chains through comprehensive mapping and monitoring. ✔ H.R.8138 was introduced in the House with the aim of establishing a disaster response training program focused on helping farmers and ranchers. ✔ Also introduced in the House, the Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response to Operations (ACERO) Act (H.R.8118) would enable NASA to develop the use of drones to combat wildfires. Lassen forest is a 1 million Acres of land in Lassen, Shasta, Tehama, Plumas, and Butte counties. Satellites and #EO are helpful in predicting the spread of fires and containing them. Over 6,000 personnel, 45 helicopters, dozens of fire tenders and dozers are at work. The sheer scale and economics of fighting these mega-fires is mind-boggling. The destruction is enormous. But they are not fait-accompli. The same satellite data and AI leveraged over the forest, with a fraction of resources would make the whole forest healthy and resilient for the next century. Greece becomes the first country to build a national wildfire system using OroraTech’s technology 🥇 ⚠️ Statista reports that In 2023, wildfires in Greece had burned an area of 174,800 hectares.  Its rough, mountainous terrain, and geography spanning over 6,000 islands, makes fighting wildfires in Greece very difficult. 🛰️ To tackle the problem, the Greek government announced its investment into four thermal satellites and a wildfire platform with OroraTech. The $20M investment provides an urgent solution to combating the problem of the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires. 🔥The system for wildfire management is able to detect wildfires before they occur and predict their trajectory. 🔥 Together with a consortium of Greek subcontractors, OroraTech will deliver a system for wildfire management, including ground systems and processing services, as well as a constellation of thermal imaging satellites dedicated to monitoring the entire country of Greece for wildfires. 🇬🇷 OroraTech CEO and CTO Martin Langer said“The world-class know-how of our Greek partners for thermal sensing is instrumental in providing the best solution for this country.
