If, today, English is everyone's International Mother Language, it hasn't been easy. Today being international mother language day, it is worth noting that English seems to have gone from something spoken on a tiny island to become the world's mother language. At their peak, the English had colonised 56 nations/peoples. It is appalling that the world has an inescapable relationship and such continued association with the language of people capable of cruelty unspeakable in any language. It is equally surprising that the language of Evil didn't turn out to be Russian after all, as is made out to be. Perhaps war becomes just so much easier on the conscience of troops and people if a potential colony is painted dark, barbaric, strange, misfit, evil, undemocratic before it is attacked and plundered by the Empire for its resources. I'm sure it must be difficult to find a potential unexploited colony in today's times, given that the English haven't left much to plunder. A good way to go about it is to find places they don't speak English.

Historical review in 14 languages. The war on Gaza is about displacement, settlement, ethnic cleansing and more shockingly it's a genocide pure and simple. Stay informed, speak out, spread the truth, resist the narrative, lies and propaganda. #stopkillingchildren #stopgenocideingaza #stopgenocideingaza #ceasefireforgazanow #ceasefireforgazanow #ceasefireforgazanow

The significance of language is that it has roots deep in our DNA, it shapes our thoughts, depicts our cultural similarities, differences, peculiarities. It defines our perception of self and of community. Language is an amalgamation of all that we are and a herald of all that we will ever be. When I worked on my Bachelor Thesis with a dear colleague of mine, we focused on a local dialect, still surviving, but becoming rarer, found in her hometown and neighboring villages. As I went through lengthy bibliography I was suddenly accutely aware of how many of our world’s oldest and most beautiful languages have been lost to time and Western expansionism. The loss of native languages due to colonisation and globalisation is a tragic loss for humanity. We’ve been much too late in joining the race of preserving those important aspects of human history and society, but at least we’re in it now. Efforts to document and propagate native languages that are on the verge of dying out is vital. For the sake of mankind as a whole. #languagematters #disappearinglanguages #linguistics #appliedlinguistics #culturalheritage #culturalpreservation

Hi I'm currently busy improving my German to a B2 level I have an exam in May. At the same time I volunteer in two German organizations: one cultural and one human rights organization. I spend most of my time writing my own texts. One of them is the first decolonial autotheory on behalf of a representative of Komi Permyak identity. The book is divided into chapters; I describe how I study the history of my identity and the world's artistic practices dedicated to this problem, with a special focus on the practices of representatives of the indigenous "non-titular" peoples of Russia. Pieces of texts I publish in a telegram feed. There is an option for automatic translation in English t.me/belgorodbelgrade

Facts are facts, the numbers are correct; however, statistics don't always give you insight. I would like to know how many ELT professionals tried voicing their opposition to Israeli genocide and were silenced?! Don't get me wrong, I acknowledge the racist Islamophobic agenda in ELT but, as an ESL teacher myself, I am yet to see one single occurrence of silencing, ousting or firing teachers who stand up for Palestine. So, I believe we need to focus more on the solution rather than the problem. We need to speak up, we need to sponsor course books, ESL websites, YouTube channels, podcasts. Up for collaboration! Peace✌️

It's all connected. The Islamophobic, racist violence in the UK this week. The fact that Black and brown writers and editors are rare in English Language Teaching publishing. The silence from ELT organisations about the violence towards Palestinians over the past 10 months and past 76 years. The silencing of employees in ELT organisation who are trying to speak up about Palestine. The fact that Africa barely gets a mention in ELT materials unless it's about wildlife, a white saviour, the Pyramids or Mandela. Change starts with awareness.

Happy Day of Ukrainian Language and Writing! 🇺🇦 Today, we celebrate the rich tapestry of words and stories that make up the Ukrainian language. It's a day to honor our literary heritage, embrace the beauty of our mother tongue, and promote linguistic diversity. The Ukrainian language is officially recognized as one of the most beautiful languages in the world, and this is not just an expression. It ranks second in terms of melody after Italian and third in terms of vocabulary, ahead of French and Persian. Let's continue to cherish the power of words, the art of storytelling, and the cultural richness of Ukraine 📚🖋️. #UkrainianLanguageDay #LanguageMatters
