They started from humble beginnings as a stand in Old Spitalfields Market and grew the business to 6 locations throughout central London. After 11 years of running restaurants, They saw first-hand how chefs work. How hard it is for chefs to keep track of food costs. And how best to work with their suppliers. CAVA rewards program is gearing up for an overhaul in October! If you are a member, you also recently received a slightly cryptic but charming email about the upcoming changes. I must admit, as much as I geek out over these things, I didn't have the patience to compare the old T&C v. the new T&C, especially since I didn't have the old version saved. We do know that new earnable rewards will be added, challenges will become more frequent, and freebies will likely flow freely after relaunch. Per Restaurant Dive reporting, in late 2023, Cava switched to a points-based program from a transaction-based model. Members earn 10 points for every dollar spent. CEO Brett Schulman, in a previous interview, said this change was a placeholder while the brand worked on a more sophisticated version in test markets. Can't wait to see what this change brings - with Andrew Rebhun's leadership in guest experience at Cava, I expect a smooth launch. (Link in comments)

The acquisition aligns with One's strategy of diversifying its portfolio of experiential concepts, adding to its high-end, full-service offerings. Despite pandemic-related challenges, One Group's revenues have remained resilient, totaling $332.8 million in 2023, with a slight decline in same-store sales offset by overall revenue growth. Des Gunewardena, formerly one half of restaurant group D&D, has spoken for the first time about his acrimonious 2022 departure from the company he founded 18 years ago. Great scoop from Steve Dinneen on today's front page! Speaking to City A.M. in an exclusive interview he said: “I had no option [but to leave]. There was a pretty fundamental difference of views between the guy who founded the business [him] and the financial stakeholders." “I had one vision for how to develop the company and the private equity investors had a different vision. My strategy was to continue to practise the things that have been so successful since D&D was formed… In the short term, you have to manage the business as well as you can. And in the long term you continue to stick to your vision: long-term players, long-term growth. That was my strategy. Theirs was more focused on the short term.”
