Battery cycle life depends to a large extent on the electrolyte being used. Ideally, electric vehicle manufacturers / users shall motivate their battery suppliers to use electrolyte innovations that have proven to give best cycle life.

The recent cold snap in the US directs attention to a few facts with electric vehicles and battery technology: 1. Current battery technology loses efficiency dramatically at subzero temperatures. 2. Without supplemental heating, battery cell life expectancy will be dramatically reduced with increased use in subzero temperatures. Initially adapted from traditional vehicles, modern designs now use advanced stamped and brazed techniques for superior cooling efficiency. These plates focus on single-sided cooling, targeting the battery's bottom or sides. As battery energy density increases, the cooling area will likely expand.
