Price vs. Value 📌 So let's tackle a common issue the price vs value concern regarding essential clothing pieces. While minimalist sustainable premium essentials may come with a higher price tag compared to fast fashion alternatives, as surprising as it may sound most consumers are still often willing to invest in quality pieces that offer long-term value. However, you may still have concerns about whether the price aligns with the percived value. When it comes to buying minimal pieces that will become the core of your wardrobe, it’s important to justify your investment based on superior quality, the timeless design and longevity. These are staples that never go out of style that'll stick with you for the long haul, effortlessly elevating your looks, that you’ll reach for time and time again. So, if you're still concerned, think about it like this: it's not just about the upfront cost; it's about what you're getting in return. Think of it as an investment in yourself and the planet.

Building Brands Globally - Idea to Product | Ghostwriter For Founders & Executives in Business of Fashion
Controversial opinion: Fast fashion isn’t the real enemy. It’s our mindset. 🧠 Fast fashion has its appeal, no doubt. It’s colorful, trendy, and super tempting. But here’s the thing – we can still look great without wrecking the planet. One trick I’ve found helpful is raiding my grandma’s closet or hitting up local vintage shops. You’d be surprised at the gems you can find – like a cool 70s dress or a timeless leather jacket with a story behind it. Another approach is to invest in quality over quantity. A sturdy trench coat or a well-made blazer will last way longer than a bunch of cheap, trendy pieces that fall apart after a few wears. And here’s a fun idea: organize clothing swaps with friends or your community. It’s like a free shopping spree where everyone gets something new without spending a dime. Feeling crafty? Try DIY upcycling. Turn old jeans into shorts or jazz up a plain shirt with some embroidery. It’s creative, eco-friendly, and gives your wardrobe a unique touch. Supporting brands that care about sustainability is also key – look for ones using organic materials or fair trade practices. Your money becomes a vote for a better, greener fashion industry. So, making small changes can turn sustainability into a new fashion statement. It’s about making smarter choices and feeling good about them. Ready to give it a try? Who are you? What do you value? How do you want the world to see you? These existential questions are difficult to reckon with internally, and even more difficult to explain to other people. But this is the weight of expectation the fashion industry has projected onto our personal style, and it is pushing us to overconsume. “A lot of people think you have to keep consuming to achieve personal style, but the overconsumption trap just makes you more confused,” explains New York-based content creator Mandy Lee, better known online as Old Loser in Brooklyn. “When you have a strong sense of personal style, you’re not swayed by trends or marketing,” adds Brittany Sierra, founder and CEO of the Sustainable Fashion Forum and host of the Green Behaviour podcast. Academic Katia Dayan Vladimirova spoke about resisting overconsumption as a "radical act", and connected the dots between overconsumption and mental health, a connection that self-described "soul stylist" Kerry Wilde has built her personal styling service on. Lewis Akenji warned of the danger of putting fashion "on a pedestal" and projecting too much of our identity or self-worth onto clothes, while Dr Laura Beltran-Rubio explained that our personal style can reflect our values, as an enhancement rather than the source of our sense of self. Rachel Arthur shared how she has overhauled her own personal style in light of her sustainable fashion work, and Andrea Cheong outlined her process for developing personal style, which she says consumers need in order to follow the age-old mantra of "buy less and buy better". Project Manager | Business Development | Sustainability Expert | Driving Growth through Strategic Innovation & Sustainable Practices
Just read this article by Vogue Business that really sparked some introspection! As someone with a big appetite for fashion (guilty as charged!), I often fall prey to trends. Spotting something on a friend or influencer can trigger that "must-have" impulse. But do I truly need it? Many times, I have found items in my closet unworn, unused, and ultimately forgotten after the initial excitement worn off. Yes, the fashionista in me loves to indulge in the latest styles, but it’s crucial to sometimes take a step back and assess whether a purchase is truly necessary. We're constantly juggling needs and wants, and admittedly, the wants often come out on top—which is totally okay! If I feel like treating myself, I indulge, especially with a passion for luxury goods. Yet, while I enjoy these moments of indulgence, I'm also striving to strike a balance. I think it's important to make purchases that not only bring me joy but also align with my commitment to sustainability. It’s about finding that sweet spot where pleasure meets principle!

Surely we really don’t need that many… …clothes, do we? Cos I mean if you look through your wardrobe, I’m almost sure you’ll find at least 2, 3 or more clothing items that you’ve only worn once in the past two years. And if you look further, you’ll probably find that your weekly style rotation revolves around 10 to 15 clothes, if I try to be generous. With others in the pile, occupying that space you don’t really have. But you still keep buying more and more. I know it probably doesn’t make any sense that someone in fashion would make a suggestion surrounding buying less. Cos I mean if you buy less clothes, lots of fashion businesses would suffer for it. But take a look around you. Take a good look at the climate conditions of where you are. Because from my point of view, the rains are either pouring harder or winter getting harsher. People are either complaining of too much sunshine, with the heat bordering on life threatening or complaining about the coldness of the weather, amidst other dangerous environmental concerns. With a percentage of this caused by fashion’s damaging operations on the environment. From clothing overproduction to overconsumption to increasing disposal which ends up in dumps and landfills that mostly never decay. Which ultimately results into environmental pollution and damage. So when next you enter that clothing store, I think a potential question to ask yourself should be “Do you honestly really really need that dress”? If the answer is No, should you be buying it?

The Quiet Power of a Sustainable Wardrobe Fashion is often about following trends, but at CHOME, we believe your wardrobe can do much more. A sustainable wardrobe isn’t just about looking good; it’s about making choices that help the planet and reflect your values. Less Is More Instead of buying lots of clothes, consider investing in fewer, high-quality pieces that you truly love. This minimalist approach helps reduce waste and makes it easier to care for the clothes you own. Imagine opening your closet and only seeing items that are made responsibly and will last for years. Repair, Don’t Replace When your clothes start to wear out, repairing them instead of tossing them is a simple way to fight against the throwaway culture of fast fashion. By mending your clothes, you’re showing that you value them and the resources used to create them. Fashion with Meaning Sustainable fashion isn’t about making a loud statement; it’s a quiet, thoughtful choice. Wearing CHOME means aligning your wardrobe with your values and choosing to make a positive impact on the world, one outfit at a time. The future of fashion is about being intentional with your choices. By rethinking how you shop and care for your clothes, you’re not just following trends—you’re helping to create a more sustainable world. And that’s a style that never goes out of fashion. #CHOMEOn #MasaDepanModis
