Global Fashion Agenda recently held its 2024 Summit in Copenhagen, bringing industry professionals together to address the critical intersection of sustainability and fashion. Those in attendance acknowledged the detrimental impacts of apparel manufacturing and shared both successes and setbacks in a collaborative effort to move the industry forward. The subject of transformation was threaded throughout the two days -- transformation of mindset, values, behaviors, and business models. But real transformation (defined as dramatic, profound change, metamorphosis) is no small task. When was the last time you experienced a complete metamorphosis? We know the profound changes needed are not happening at the pace and scale of the growing environmental and social challenges. 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻   “I’ll ask the same question I asked 5 years ago - do you care? Transforming ourselves is at the core of any corporate transformation.” Paul Polman, Businessperson and Author “We (the apparel sector) have the solutions…we don’t have the will and that’s what’s got to change.” Ryan Gellert, CEO Patagonia “Collaboration can be a fig leaf for inaction. We are not transforming.” Peder Michael Anker Jørgensen, Sustainable Strategy Advisor “How products are designed is essential, but we also need to look at the bigger picture: How we design our entire business.” eva karlsson, Houdini While large scale transformation remains elusive, there were sparks of change at Copenhagen with the recognition of emerging best practices.
