Elevating Mental Health in Sierra Leone: A Call for Compassion and Healing With the Director of Mental Health and Psychology in Sierra Leone Dear fellow Sierra Leoneans, In the rhythmic heartbeat of our beloved nation, I feel compelled to address a topic close to my heart – mental health. As we navigate the vibrant tapestry of life, it's crucial that we acknowledge and prioritize the well-being of our minds, fostering a culture of compassion and understanding. Mindful Melodies of Education: Nurturing Awareness I believe in the power of education to transform lives. Let's infuse our schools, communities, and homes with the melodies of mental wellness education. By integrating mental health awareness into our curricula and community programs, we empower ourselves with the knowledge to prioritize emotional well-being. Community Support: Orchestrating Healing Spaces Together Communities in Sierra Leone are known for their warmth and unity. Let's harness this unity to establish healing spaces where seeking support is encouraged. By creating community-driven mental health centers and hotlines, we extend a helping hand to those facing the complexities of their minds.

Motivational Speaker | Award-Winning Two-Time Author & Autism Advocate | Specialist in, Mindset & Confidence Strategies.
Transform Lives with the Power of Words: Book a Star Assembly for Children’s Mental Health Week. As we approach Children’s Mental Health Week, the need to empower our youth with vital emotional wellness tools is more important than ever. This year, my team and I are eager to bring an inspiring and educational experience to your school. Our interactive workshops and assemblies are designed for students from Year 8 upwards, offering more than just information - they’re about transforming young minds. At the heart of our sessions is the “Confidence Star,” a powerful concept that brings the power of positive self-talk and personal responsibility to life. It’s about helping students understand the incredible impact of the words they say to themselves. The Confidence Star isn’t just a tool; it’s a journey to self-awareness and empowerment. In my talks, which include insights from my TEDx talk “Own Your Shine,” I emphasise the importance of embracing one’s unique qualities. My own journey, as an individual and a mother, has shown me the diverse and unique paths we all take. While my experience with autism has provided me profound insights, the core message of my talks is universal: the power of words shapes our reality. I teach about carrying a ‘mental health rucksack’ – a concept involving the three Rs: I discuss the three most important R‘s to pack in your Rucksack 🎒 https://lnkd.in/eKnW2dj2

Today is World Mental Health Day. As a firm, we are focused on designing for mental wellbeing in all spaces, not just healthcare buildings. Most moments of crisis don't occur within hospital walls. To us, designing for mental wellbeing means we must shift our focus beyond treatment spaces alone and expand our line of sight towards prevention. We must consider mental health within all the places we live, learn, work, play and care. Recently, our Stephanie Vito, AIA, ACHA and Marisa Nemcik, AIA NCARB WELL AP led a webinar that illustrated ways a three-dimensional ecosystem of wellness can shift the conversation from treatment of mental health issues to one of prevention on college campuses in particular. Today marks the end of Children's Mental Health Week 2024. But don't worry if you missed it, every day provides a fabulous new opportunity to start a conversation with a child or young person you know about their mental health. The NHS England report published in 2023, "Mental Health of Children and Young People in England" quoted research that found that 20.3% of eight to 16-year-olds had a probable mental disorder in 2023. That's 1 in 5 children - it's truly staggering. In my experience of helping adults with my Compassion Key healing sessions; many of the blocks, unhelpful patterns and limiting beliefs that hold us back from leading the lives we truly want to live are established in our formative years too. It's such a critical time focus all. If you're not sure where to start to help the young people you know, Place2Be share some brilliant resources on their website, including tips on how to start a conversation about mental health with children. These were created based on feedback from children about what they would (and wouldn't) find accessible, supportive and welcoming about such a conversation. And if you work in a school, or have school aged children, The Mindfulness in Schools Project provides mindfulness programmes to children (and teaching staff) aimed at making a positive difference to their mental health and wellbeing. #childrensmentalhealthweek #childrensmentalhealth

This action guide describes 6 school-based strategies that are proven to promote and support student mental health and well-being, such as, ✅ Increasing mental health literacy ✅ Promoting mindfulness ✅ Promoting Social, Emotional, Behavioral Learning ✅ Enhancing connectedness among students, staff and families ✅ Providing Psychosocial Skills Training and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions ✅ Supporting staff well-being Use the link below to learn more ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dmAXuiqp #mentalwellness #mentalhealthawarenessweek #studentmentalhealth

Week 2 of the Whole Orgainsation Approach is Helping Others. Research in the "Journal of Happiness Studies" suggests that prosocial behavior enhances social connectedness, which is crucial for mental health. Young people who volunteer or help others often feel more integrated into their communities and develop stronger social networks. Building this type of opportunity into a whole school aproach can have a positive impact on the wellbeing of all involved. I have a peer support training package ready to go! If you would like me to train your students, or support staff to train your students in Peer Support you can also experience the benefits of encouraging young people to support each other. DM me for more details -----------------------‐-------------------------------- Hello! 👋I'm Becky a workshop leader, facilitator and educator.
