#Martian On this sol in 194 (1974 February 21): Images 9.V through 11.V partially overlap in the Noachis region, straddling the southwestern section of the Margaritifer Sinus quadrangle and the northern area of the Argyre quadrangle. Taken through green, red, and blue filters, respectively, where the images overlap, a color composite was produced. This was the first color image returned from Mars. https://lnkd.in/gGsKTXfC

COMING SOON! Chariots on fire, reins of power. Early La Tène elite burials from the Lower Rhine-Meuse region and their Northwest European context | edited by Nico Roymans, Liesbeth Theunissen, Louis Swinkels & Sasja van der Vaart-Verschoof 🧐 Chariots on Fire, Reins of Power presents the first comprehensive overview of 5th century BC elite graves from the Lower Rhine-Meuse region. Characterised by imported grave goods such as bronze vessels, horse tack, weapons and occasionally two-wheeled vehicles, these strikingly rich cremation burials are the northernmost representatives of an elite culture that had its roots in the Late Hallstatt and Early La Tène culture of more southern regions in France and the German Rhineland. This book is the result of an interdisciplinary study of this northern group of graves, prompted by the recent discovery of a new chariot burial at Heumen, the Netherlands. It will be of great interest to anyone interested in the material culture of the Iron Age and the wider debate about social transformations in the European region at this time. 📙 Pre-order now to get €5,- off! https://lnkd.in/gmiYEcxH #funeraryarchaeology #chariots #IronAge #eliteburials

#TBT: This latest memory from our 15 years of #oceanexploration comes from our exploration of the #CaribbeanSea at the #Barbados mud #volcanos when we met this Erenna #siphonophore! Siphonophores are colonial animals that start with one body (called a #zooid), then grow by asexually producing many more small bodies that all remain attached. Each zooid becomes specialized for particular tasks, such as capturing food with stinging cells in the "frilly part", pulsing locomotion cells in "the chainsaw float", or for reproduction. These predators are found in ocean basins around the world as #pelagic predators. https://lnkd.in/eiw-R-xQ

It was a delight to get to interview Lyman Stone the Director of the IFS Pronatalism Initiative at the The Institute for Family Studies, and in this clip to ask him what insights his research on pronatalism and the history of human demography has to say about populating Mars.

The Mercator map projection, developed in 1569, is widely criticized for its inaccuracies, particularly in distorting the sizes of land masses. Its preservation of angles and shapes leads to significant exaggeration of land sizes towards the poles, while diminishing the sizes of equatorial regions. Alternative map projections, such as the Peters projection, prioritize equal area representation and challenge these biases by providing more accurate views of global geography. https://lnkd.in/gr_Edq-j My YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/eYRcaTqw

How emperor penguin chicks are adapting to shrinking sea ice caused by climate change? Is this "jump" a behavioral adaption? It may definitely be The footage is a unique glimpse into the lives of these elusive creatures. However, it also underscores the impact of climate change on Antarctic wildlife, specifically on emperor penguins, whose breeding patterns are being altered as they are forced to nest on permanent ice shelves rather than sea ice. #climatechange #emperorpenguins
A breathtaking dive 🐧 Filmed for the very first time by Bertie Gregory, emperor penguin chicks leap off a 50-foot ice cliff to take their first swim in the Antarctic waters.
