When it comes to leadership, there is a common misconception that putting yourself first equates to selfishness. In his new book, “The Energy Advantage,” Ricardo Sunderland emphasizes the importance of leading by example and shedding the guilt that all too often accompanies self-care. Speaking with Rachael De Renzy Channer, Ricardo said: “If you're kinder to yourself, your ability to be kinder to others will be greater. The ability of your team to connect to you will grow.” Read the full interview for more highlights: https://ego.nz/45EZyOl

How do you incorporate empathy and compassion into your leadership? Understanding the Difference: Sympathy, Empathy, and Compassion ( by Abir Haddoud ) (Ref Harvard Business Review) In today's challenging times, leaders are tasked with the overwhelming responsibility of supporting their teams through ongoing uncertainties. It's crucial to understand the subtle but significant differences between sympathy, empathy, and compassion. While these terms are often used interchangeably, they represent different levels of connection and action: ➟ Sympathy: "I feel for you." It's an emotional response acknowledging another's hardship. ➟ Empathy: "I feel with you." It involves deeply understanding and sharing the feelings of another. ➟ Compassion: "I am here to help." This goes beyond feeling to actively intending to help others. In our ongoing efforts to navigate through this pandemic, moving from sympathy and empathy to compassion is key. Compassionate leadership not only acknowledges and understands what others are going through but also takes actionable steps to support and help them. Let's strive to lead with compassion, creating a supportive and proactive environment for our teams. -- Adapted from "Connect with Empathy, But Lead with Compassion", HBR

Quote: “To lead yourself, use your head; to lead others, use your heart”. (John C. Maxwell) This quote highlights two key aspects of successful leadership: self-awareness and empathy. Leading Yourself (Head “brain”): This refers to using your intellectual faculties for self-direction. It involves setting goals, making sound decisions, and developing your own skills. Essentially, you need to be clear on your own direction before you can lead others. Leading Others (Heart): This highlights the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership. It means connecting (communicating) with people on a human level, understanding their needs and motivations, be so close to them, and inspiring them. Leaders who use their hearts build trust and loyalty with their followers. The quote emphasizes that effective leadership requires a balance of both. We need the strategic thinking of the "head" to guide our team and the compassion of the "heart" to motivate them.

I help companies who want to increase their team's engagement, retention, communication, and performance | Professional Development Training | Leadership Coach | Public Speaker
Every leader should read "The Carpenter" by Jon Gordon. We all can impact the lives of others. Most people don't view themselves as leaders but the truth is we are all leaders because we all influence the people in our lives. In this book, Jon beautifully illustrates what great leadership is. The premise is that great leaders are great because people trust them. The trust is built from the leader being focused on doing three things: 1. Love 2. Serve 3. Care In today's world, there are a lot of gurus pushing a lot of narratives on how to "get rich" or "make it overnight", and it often is focused on self-serving goals. When we focus on loving our teammates and customers, serving our teammates and customers, and showing our teammates and customers that we genuinely care everything changes for the better. Leadership is not about us but it begins with us. If want our people to show up special, then we need to show up special every day. That begins with three words: love, serve, care. If you want to impact the people in your life, I highly recommend reading this book. ________ Like this post?
