GAS - Give A Sh*t. This was the message from one of the chiefs at my command when I was in the Navy. It simply stated to reach out to your friends and keep in touch. Sadly, we weren't strangers to the loss of someone close to suicide and I will do anything in my power to help someone who feels like suicide is the only option. Finding out we lost our guy was heartbreaking and I hope to never experience that again. Even if I don't know you, reach out to me to talk sometime and I am sure we can find you help or reasons to keep going. Remember - GAS up your relationships.

I think unlike many other career paths there is an unparalleled fear by those who work in any part of DoD/Mil that if you are having a mental heath issue you’ll lose your career. This fear that is generated by the culture is a contributing factor to the mental heath decline. In the past I’ve heard a great many decribe this as a natural filter separating those who can complete the mission from those who cannot. The problem with this old don’t ask don’t tell mentality on a great many subjects speaks to the need for a more integrated approach based on trust, integrity and duty. The right people need to be in the right positions, and there is always a place for someone who chooses to serve. Redundancy, speaking up when you need backup, and knowing when you need to have the next in line fill in is the key. This has to be prompted just as much as never quit so it is known that your not quitting for staying in good mental shape. Just my two cents. If your afraid of telling the truth to your own it’s time for a change, don’t let anyone take all you are, you can’t take care of anyone else properly without taking care of yourself first. Take care.

All the fighting takes place off-screen, and there is an emphasis throughout on logistics and strategy rather than the tactics and combat. Fundamentally, the thrust becomes a battle of wills and wits between the intuitive Halsey

US Soldier
2moThe army has such great programs tons of benefits but as I’ve joined the army late. Coming from a blossomed career. Since I’ve been in the United States Army I can personally say there is a lot of racism , hate, and so much more negativity in this organisation it makes me wish I never decided to serve in this organisation. I’m not a suicidal person but based on my experience I can understand why many soldiers do take the suicidal route and it’s a very unfortunate route. Giving programs like this is beneficial but in order to remove such issues we first have too look at the root causes of such a decision
