This week, we want to share a valuable insight from our colleagues at the Association for General & Liberal Studies (AGLS) AGLS Website. Are you tired of students questioning the importance of general education courses? At their recent conference, many presentations highlighted innovative ways to integrate career competencies into general education. One standout session, led by Kit Murphy from The College of New Jersey, showcased “A Hands-On Demonstration of Two Better Ways to Introduce Students to the Value of General Education.” He encouraged participants to connect general education with career competencies during orientation. A great strategy is to have students examine the NACE career competencies and discuss how various general education areas will support their learning and practical application of the NACE areas. Even better—get faculty involved in these discussions!
