A momentous occasion unfolded at the Georgia Charter School Association Conference as our esteemed CEO, Keedar Whittle, took center stage to illuminate the path forward for education. With the seismic shifts brought by COVID-19, schools are redefining their roles and embracing collaborations like never before. Keedar’s presentation delved into the critical need to harness the potential of partnerships with external entities to advance our educational mission. From community organizations to industry experts, the influx of visitors into our schools presents both challenges and opportunities. Through an engaging workshop, Keedar outlined four pivotal objectives aimed at maximizing the symbiotic relationship between schools and their partners. It’s not merely about adapting; it’s about thriving in this new educational ecosystem. At Educators Now, we remain steadfast in our commitment to empowering schools and educators with the tools and insights needed to navigate these dynamic times. Together, let’s shape the future of education.

“Too Essential to Fail: Why Our Big Bet on Public Education Needs a Bold National Response” written by Karen J. Pittman and Merita Irby and commissioned by Education Reimagined is now available. ➡ https://lnkd.in/gZKUd6wd As part of KP Catalysts - Knowledge to Power Catalysts‘ broader Centering Youth Thriving efforts, “Too Essential to Fail” serves as a reminder that increasing youth thriving is possible, but to get there, we must move away from high academic standards being synonymous with standardization. We know that isn’t how people learn. It’s encouraging to see innovation, organizations thinking differently about competency-based learning, and more. Yet as long as these bright spots exist only in pockets, they will further exacerbate rather than combat inequity. “Too Essential to Fail” brings together a preponderance of evidence from disparate sources that combined gives us the confidence we need to create “a new education architecture that leverages the full complement of community resources needed to empower and support learners for life, work, and civic engagement.”

Embracing Educational Equity: THE Pathway to Greater Access & Opportunity (#3) Today, I am in northern Michigan, at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, for the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) EdCon 2024. I will open this afternoon’s breakout session with the following: ‘Relying on past practices and outdated models only serves to perpetuate existing inequities and limits the potential of students. To impact educational equity, we must embrace a new approach that breaks away from traditional and outdated teacher practices and assumptions about students’ academic potential. By looking forward, we can envision a more inclusive and equitable educational system that meets the needs of all learners, regardless of their background or circumstances.’ Educators, consider these four prompts that today's session participants will explore: 1. What would it mean for your school culture if you increased access to advanced courses for underserved and underrepresented students? 2. How would increasing access at the highest academic levels change mindsets and expectations more broadly within your school? 3. What policies and practices could you implement at the district and school levels to codify a system of high expectations that results in equitable access to and success in advanced courses? 4. What resources/support do you need in order to advance this work in the 2024-25 school year?

(These opinions are my own) I recently had the opportunity to participate in two impactful education conferences: Yes.Every.Kid’s Stronger Together Denver Cohort and ExcelinEd’s ESA Administrators Network in Minneapolis. These experiences caused me to reflect on school accountability within our education system, particularly in relation to market-based approaches. I find myself aligned with ExcelinEd’s CEO, @Patricia Levesque who borrowed a line from her friend 50CAN’s president Derrell Bradford by stating, “you regulate a monopoly different than a market.” Levesque points out that accountability assessments are crucial for traditional public schools due to their monopoly status, whereas market-driven education relies on parental choice as a robust accountability measure. (Regulating Public, Private Schools: Parental Choice Is The Key (excelined.org) I particularly value ExcelinEd’s A-F accountability framework for its clarity in assessing school performance, which is essential for both schools and families. (ExcelinEd.PolicyToolkit.AFSchoolGrading.ModelPolicy.2019.pdf) As I continue my residency at ExcelinEd, I look forward to exploring these nuances further and continuing my development as an education policy leader.
