#Biodiversity Latin America Leading Global Biodiversity Discussions Andrea Pradilla explores the significance of COP16 in Cali, Colombia, and the pivotal role of impact reporting in biodiversity preservation. The conference aims to unite governments, businesses, civil society, and local communities to drive collective action for a sustainable relationship with nature. Pradilla underscores that a multi-stakeholder approach, as advocated by GRI, is crucial for COP16's success. She views this event as a potential turning point for advancing biodiversity accountability in Latin America. At COP16, GRI will emphasize the revised Biodiversity Standard (GRI 101) and advocate for ongoing improvements in corporate transparency regarding biodiversity impacts. #COP16 #Biodiversity #ClimateAction #GRI #Sustainability #BiodiversityReporting #CollectiveAction #LatinAmerica #EnvironmentalImpact #CorporateResponsibility https://lnkd.in/gRuZtGTi

COP16 is underway and I can’t wait to get there. I’m truly hoping for world leaders and businesses to “make peace with nature” 🕊️ 🌱 This is a make-or-break moment for biodiversity. It’s two years since the international community agreed to set global biodiversity targets. Now is the time to make these a reality and put them into practice. Policy makers, scientists, indigenous peoples, companies and financial institutions are awaiting landmark agreements on: 📈 standardised metrics and indicators for measuring biodiversity value 🎯 ambitious targets and action plans in national biodiversity strategies 💰 new funds and mechanisms to [re-]direct finance towards nature protection ❤️ renewed focus on indigenous peoples with equitable conservation action 🌍 a global system for sharing genetic information. Yes, we’re asking for a lot. But biodiversity is the best natural defense against the climate crisis and COP16 needs to lead by example ahead of the climate COP29. At the start of COP16, only 15% of the 190+ signatory countries to the Global Biodiversity Framework had submitted their national plans (known as NBSAP). Now, the onus is on business and financial institutions to take action for nature. For our part, Ramboll is stepping up for nature by launching a Global Biodiversity Metric on 28 October at the conference. With our metric we aim to bring consistency to the measurement of habitat value around the world. Drop me a line in the comments if you’re at COP16. The Ramboll team would love to meet you, Vikki Patton, Lis Castillo Nelis, Daniel Rockefeller. #LetsCloseTheGap on biodiversity #COP16 #Biodiversity

What’s the #GlobalBiodiversityFramework? You’re about to be hearing a whole lot about it, so here is what you need to know featuring Conservation International Senior Vice President, Global Policy and Government Affairs Lina Barrera: In December 2022, 196 countries gathered in Montreal, Canada for the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), where they agreed on new global goals on biodiversity in a framework that will be implemented over the next decade. Known as the Global Biodiversity Framework, the objective is to ensure the future of biodiversity, nature, and humanity alike. Later this month, the world will come together again at #COP16 in Cali, Colombia – one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet – to take the Global Biodiversity Framework to the next level and confront the planet’s biodiversity crisis head on. The focus this year: strategies for resource mobilization and mechanisms for implementation. The outcome will have profound implications for our future, because when nature and biodiversity thrive, we all thrive.

Going from #NYCW to #COP16 to #COP29 this year (skipping #G20). The connecting thread is the question of how we finance the solutions we know we need to implement.

The ocean sustains all life on Earth and is the world's largest ecosystem. Without ocean action, we cannot realise many of the targets of the UN Biodiversity Global Biodiversity Framework and of the Sustainable Development Goals. In order to resolve environmental problems, tools that build on market mechanisms can often be useful but can also do more harm than good if they are poorly designed or applied to environmental problems that simply do not easily fit the logic of the market. This is an issue that needs to be thoroughly discussed at the ongoing COP-16 on Biodiversity.

🌎 It’s the UN Biodiversity conference this week - #COP16Colombia. Under the theme #PeaceWithNature, leaders globally will come together to address the goals of the agreement. In Britain, our concern about loss of nature is strong. It is the climate impact people are most worried about in the coming years. For #BritainTalksClimate, when asked to rank the environment and climate issues people felt were most important for the Government to prioritise, protecting nature and wildlife came top. We know there is appetite for action!
