When you're in charge of people, when you have a team. Your you have a mob, you have a game. And the gang that you're in charge of will actually just get a mob mentality, just like a mob running down the street. Someone starts, decides good idea to start smashing windows. We're all going to start smashing. We start, we're going to flip over this cop car. We're all going to start flipping over this mob mentality. We know what it is. We know what it looks. Well, when you're in charge of a team, I don't care if it's a finance team or an insurance team or a construction team, they're a mob and they have a mob mentality. And as a leader, what we have to do is we have to make sure that we are not mentally part of that mod. We cannot be part of that mob. We have to detach from the mob. If we get the map mob mentality, we're flipping over cars, we're smashing windows. We think that's good. We think that's a good idea. When you're part of a mob, bro, you think it's a good idea. So where is this coming to play from a leadership perspective? We. Have a series of projects that we do and we kind of crush and we win the bid and we dominate the project. We get it done on time and we're kind of high fiving and we're starting to get arrogant. And all of a sudden someone like, hey, we got another client pitch on Tuesday. Are we doing rehearsal? We don't need to do rehearsal. We're good. We got this. And you're, if you're in the mob, you're like, hell yeah, of course we've got it. And now we don't do the rehearsal. We don't have the slides right. We end up looking stupid. We don't get the contract. So when we're leaders. We say we don't join the mob. We're not flipping cars. We say, hey, listen, yeah, hey, we we dominated the last few for sure. But just to make sure we stay on the street, we absolutely. We got to do this rehearsal. We got to look at those slides. Look, we can, we'll take 20 minutes. We have to do an hour rehearsal, but 20 minutes make sure everyone knows their piece. Let's, let's, let's be smart about this. So. You can't be part of that mob. Same thing is true the other direction. You you lose a client, you fail another project. You're you're morale is starting to slump. Well, if you're part of the mob, you're morale starts to slump too. Not a good idea. What do you got to do? Pick them back up. Hey, look, we lost those last couple, but guess what? We learned this, we learned that we we brought in this new product to cover that little gap that we had. We're going to be good to go. Let's do some serious rehearsals and let's be ready to knock things out of the park, right? So as a leader, you cannot be part of the mob. Sometimes, sometimes the mobs moving in the right direction you can encourage. That's great. You can be like, Yep, flip back on. But you also have to be the one that's like, OK time, time to pull back.
This is true for the team members as well. Learn to detach from your teammates negativity and poor attitude. Letting yourself get dragged down into their way of thinking only hurts you. If your manager chooses to do nothing and only contributes to perpetuating negativity, time to move on.

One of the best things I’ve learned in leadership is to detach. That doesn’t mean be ignorant to your mission and your people, rather look holistically at issues and empower people to make decisions and support them. Good leaders will be the first to admit they don’t know everything.
