While 90% of jobs in Alabama require some form of post-secondary credential, only 46% of the population holds one. And of every 100 high school graduates, only 24 attain a bachelor's degree within six years. What about the rest? That's where Alabama steps in, shifting the focus from traditional degrees to apprenticeships, occupational licenses, certifications, and more. This isn't about downplaying degrees but about elevating every form of learning that equips our workforce for in-demand jobs. But it doesn't stop there. Alabama’s approach involves organized sectoral partnerships, encompassing business, industry, and education leaders. The Alabama Committee on Credentialing and Career Pathways, co-chaired by key educational figures, is a testament to this collaborative effort. This committee is creating a 'DNA' for in-demand jobs – a blend of required competencies, qualifications, and the essence of what each job entails. They’re crafting a workforce adaptable across various sectors, not just climbing a traditional ladder but navigating a dynamic career landscape. Alabama isn't just preparing for the future of work; it's actively constructing it. A future where skills, adaptability, and lifelong learning are the currency of the job market. #AlTalentTriad #AlabamaWorks #EBSCOed #Skills #FutureOfWork

Hey Indiana employers…. If you are looking for additional workforce this summer, consider you local student labor pool. Indiana allows for minors that are participating in a work based learning program or apprenticeship the same exemptions for restricted activities during summer work as they do during their program while in school. There are a lot of myths out there regarding this topic along with age requirements and workers’ compensation. Reach out to your local workforce development office for clarifications. Let’s start training the next generation of workforce today! #BaronAdvancedManufacturing #BAM #CTE #BuildSomethingBetter

Do you have young people delivering fantastic results in your business? If so, we want to promote you and your business to a wider audience. We are working with the Department for Education on a pilot to support young people looking for apprenticeship opportunities at age 18. For the last year, we have been working with sixth forms and colleges. Providing teaching staff and students with the information and guidance that will improve their chances of employment upon completion of their exams. Our findings indicate that Lancashire has far fewer apprenticeship opportunities advertised (as a proportion of the population) than most other areas of England. Also, young people have little opportunity to hear employers explain what makes a good candidate and how to express this in an application. Also, our work with the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, the Lancashire LSIP, and the Work-Ready Lancashire programme (developed by the Lancashire Careers Hub) shows that some employer's views of young people are not reflective of the talent. innovation and work ethic we see. Without vacancies, young people will feel that the only viable option is to stay in education. Without changing the perception of employers (with disparaging views of young people), we will not increase vacancies. By showcasing your young team members and the impact they are having, we can ... - highlight to young people that options are available with great Lancashire employers, - show employers that young people do, and can, make a great impact on a business. Your involvement will help young people and influence other employers to recruit the fantastic talent leaving education in Summer 2025. I've worked in and around the trades ever since graduating college. My college experience helped me become prepared for some of the challenges related to my job, but unfortunately was not formative for the work that I perform on a daily basis. Much of the experience I gained in college could have also been gained in the workforce. To this point, I see an exodus from the trades due to the great college push of the late 90's early 00's and the result is that backbone of our industry is crumbling due to lack of skilled labor. People graduating college now look for "high dollar" jobs, and yet seemingly ignore the trades as a viable solution. Even high school graduates look to high-debt college institutions for the hope of "high dollar" jobs and they end up with six-figure debt prior to having gainful employment. The collegiate system works for medical, engineering, teaching, and a few other trades that require it, otherwise there are low-debt solutions that can still generate "high dollar" jobs that don't set the future generations on the back foot so rapidly. Encourage your high school junior and seniors to look into the trades and apprenticeship programs. They can create worthwhile, long-lasting careers in some incredible industries.

USDOL & Albany State University Launch Partnership to Support Veterans, Enhance Employment Opportunities at HBCUs Staff Report From Georgia CEO Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 The U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service today signed a memorandum of understanding with Albany State University designed to enhance career readiness and employment opportunities for veterans and military-affiliated students at historically Black colleges and universities. The memorandum of understanding marks the beginning of this unique collaboration, which will give veterans – including Albany State alumni who have served, ROTC cadets, military spouses and servicemembers currently on active duty, in the reserves or the National Guard – access to career resources and support from VETS job training programs. They also will gain access to apprenticeships, internships and employment placement services aimed at easing the transition into the civilian workforce. The memorandum was signed by Assistant Secretary for Veterans’ Employment and Training James D. Rodriguez and Albany State University Interim President Dr. Lawrence M. Drake II. “Veterans bring a wealth of experience, leadership and skill to the workforce, and we are excited to partner with Albany State University to support their students as they matriculate and move toward civilian careers,” said Assistant Secretary Rodriguez. “This memorandum of understanding formalizes a partnership that will open doors to career development, job training and employment opportunities for veterans and military students at Albany State University and more HBCUs.” The partnership is part of a larger initiative to connect the department with HBCUs nationwide, enhancing opportunities for veteran students, alumni and military-affiliated individuals. It also aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration’s broader efforts to support HBCUs and veterans, building on executive orders focused on workforce development, education and expanding career pathways for underrepresented groups. https://lnkd.in/euUJdFAW

For many years, high school students were recognized for receiving sports scholarships and signing with colleges. Today, we applaud schools that are also acknowledging students who choose to embark on apprenticeships, trade school, military service, or other employment options directly after high school. Schools such as within the West Alabama school systems, Henrico County Public Schools in Virginia, the Battle Ground Public Schools in Washington State, and other schools across the US are shining a spotlight on students who have chosen to take an alternative to college. Schools are acknowledging the value of alternative choices and career paths while celebrating the efforts of the students who are deciding the path that best fits their interests and passions. Supporting these alternative opportunities and ideas allows students to embrace their decisions with confidence and be successful. At Sweet P Consulting & Facilitation, LLC, we believe that every student's journey is unique, like them, and deserving of recognition and celebration. Every choice made for their future is important and offers unique beginnings in launching their careers. One path does not fit everyone and deciding on a different path should be celebrated. We support the students, no matter what path they select and we're with you each step along the way. If you need any more help deciding which career path to take, you can contact us at [email protected]. #SweetPConsulting #CareerCoachingServices #EmpoweringStudents #AlternativeCareerPaths #PathToSuccess #InspiringYouth #CareerSuccess #HonoringHardWork #PavingYourOwnPath #SupportingStudentChoices #EmbraceYourFuture

🗣 "Qualifications are important - but employers tell us young peoples' determination, character, tenacity, a willingness to continue to learn, reliability, problem solving and offering a completely different lens on how they see the world of work is just as valuable as qualifications - and that's what careers education is all about." It's #resultsday which means thousands of young people across #Surrey will be receiving grades for GCSEs and other qualifications they have been studying for. Thoughts then turn to what comes next - and that's where Surrey Careers Hub comes in. The Hub's Strategic Lead Georgina Angele spoke to BBC Surrey radio this morning about next best steps for young people - and how employers are looking for more than good grades when they recruit their future workforce. Speaking to James Cannon, Georgina said: "Regardless of their results, I would urge all young people to think about volunteering, after school or weekend jobs, and doing things around their interests and hobbies to get additional skills. "Employers are saying qualifications are great but they are looking for a broad range of experience - which is why they have numerous points of entry into their organisations, such as T Levels, apprenticeships and graduate programmes. "That's why we are out there working with Further Education colleges and employers to develop programmes of study that are accessible to all young people." Surrey Careers Hub is a Surrey County Council service run in partnership with national body The Careers & Enterprise Company. The team work with careers leaders in schools and employers across Surrey to promote opportunities to young people so they can take their next best step. 🔎 Find out more about the Careers Hub - https://lnkd.in/gaZEW73k 👂 Listen to the interview (from 7.10am) - https://lnkd.in/eKg83n7U 🤝 Volunteer to support the Hub's work - https://lnkd.in/espgqrTz

How many times can I say it to get employers to listen? Registered apprenticeships are the solution to the future state of work. Even with the movements to embrace skills first hiring: “It doesn’t necessarily mean that things are getting easier for candidates applying to jobs, it just means that the criteria at the top of the funnel that will restrict you from being seen is changing,” said Craig. “That’s not necessarily helpful to someone looking to launch their career.” With the experience gap, “the only way to solve that is through some kind of apprenticeship, where you’re literally being given the experience,” said Craig. #apprenticeswork #developyourtalent #investinpeople #skillsfirst #learninganddevelopment #futureleaders https://lnkd.in/eDizjd53
