Do you ever stop for a second on a Friday to consider how well your week has gone? It's a habit I got into when I started running my own business as it kind of kept me accountable. January this year launched with one of the biggest blows i've had since launching FORM careers - my biggest exclusive partner decided to bring their recruitment in-house. Not only that, but I had spent the last 3 months of 2023 databasing and networking for the next hiring round for them. Instead of having the busiest start to the year, I had a standing start. But this is recruitment, and I had delivered such a successful partnership that their CTO told me I was the best technology recruiter she had ever worked with - which was probably the most complimentary feedback i've ever received considering the pedestal I would put her on as a tech leader!!! Fast forward 2 weeks. I've started recruitment for a software engineer for one of my Aberdeen partners, sent 2 candidates and arranged a first stage interview that i'm feeling really positive about. Yesterday I agreed a partnership to recruit for another company I have been following for some time and have been keen to work with - more on this one on Monday! The goal is to be at interview on this next week. Today I pitched to work with another company I have been following for a couple of years and again am really keen to work alongside. I've also got an interview request pending and another submission for one of the most complicated AI roles i've ever looked at. So all in all - I came into the week with nothing and i've come out with 3 exclusive client projects and the potential of another new partnership. So all in all, it's been a good week and what started as a standing start has quickly turned on its head to line up a number of new challenges, new partners and new career opportunities for people. Last Friday I reviewed my week and thought fuck. Then I had a chill, had a Whisky, watched Bladerunner and recharged. Then I planned for the week ahead and put it in motion. Shit week or great week, a quick 5 minute review can really help close things off and plan what comes next.

As much as we'd like things to go our way, it doesn't always happen. We work with really, REALLY strong candidates at Latitude, but things can happen. Hiring managers go out of office, onboarding stalls, 5 billion people are applying for the same role, budgets get cut, and your one competitor has **this** much of an advantage on you with **one** extra skill. We can't put our eggs in one basket. So, for this #JTOTW we encourage you to have a backup plan! Tell your recruiter where you're applying, how the job market feels (even if it feels hard), and how many roles you've applied to/interviewed for. Be transparent with your recruiter if a role isn't your top choice or if you're in the running for another role. That will help your Latitude team create a plan for you. Maybe we can refer you to another client. Maybe we can change how we talk about your experience for the next job. Maybe we put you in front of multiple roles at once. Maybe we can get you connected with a valuable network contact. Or maybe we give you a well-deserved break and circle back in 2 weeks! All are valid. It just depends on what works for YOU. Alright, Happy New Year. Goals, vision, excitement and all that. 😐 Don't forget work in long term strategies this year as well. Long term meaning 5 years down the road. When I started recruiting, I took a few folks about to lunch to see what extraordinary recruiters from average ones. The best piece of advice I got was: 💡"Build in systems now that help you do less work in the future."💡 In other words, be organized. If I talk to a fantastic candidate this week, but they're happy where they are, keep notes somehow. By next year, I've got a stable full of quality folks to refer back to. Think about that after 3 years. 5 years. Talk about altitude 🛫 Simple daily things can help us succeed! #recruiting #systems #altitude
