'All India Parent Support Group- Bengaluru Edition' We recently hosted a meet-up at Indiranagar Social, aiming to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and inclusive environment for parents. The theme was ‘Celebrating Growth: Proud Moments of My Child and Personal Growth as Parents of Children with Autism.’ 🌟 It was a wonderful opportunity for parents to share their experiences and connect with others who understand their journey. 🤝 We kicked off with the ‘Gratitude Game,’ where parents shared something—whether a person, place, food, or object—they were thankful for. This simple exercise helped everyone relax and break the ice. 🌿 The ‘Toolkit’ activity followed, where we discussed the support systems in our lives and the reasons they're so vital. This led to meaningful conversations about the different ways we lean on others for support and guidance. 💬 The most touching part of the event was hearing parents share their children’s proud moments, and how they navigate their life with new experiences and learning. 🌈 We at EAS are very proud and privileged to have been chosen by the parents to walk along with them in the journey of their child's progress. 💙 The atmosphere was warm and lively, filled with genuine interactions and joyful stories. 🎉 We are incredibly grateful to all the parents who joined us and made the day so memorable. We had an amazing time organizing the event, and after hearing the wonderful feedback from the parents, we’re excited to plan more meet-ups in the future. 🌟✨ Suchitra Choudhury Amanda Augustine vandna sinha Ansu Alexander Janhavi Kelaskar Shilpa P Thangal Sarah Elsa Abraham Jijina C Aishwarya Nigam Abhishek Chawla

Parents with autistic children can offer valuable support to each other in several meaningful ways. Here are some ways they can foster mutual support and create a strong community: 1. Join or Create Support Groups - In-Person Groups: Parents can form or join local autism support groups where they share experiences, advice, and emotional support. - Online Communities: Social media platforms or online forums provide accessible spaces for parents to connect, regardless of location. Platforms like Facebook or WhatsApp groups can be powerful tools for ongoing discussions. 2. Share Resources and Knowledge Parents can exchange helpful resources, such as books, therapy recommendations, educational tools, and local service providers. Sharing knowledge about navigating school systems, therapies, and government support programs can help parents access critical services. 3. Offer Emotional Support Being able to talk to someone who truly understands the challenges and triumphs of raising an autistic child is incredibly comforting. Regular check-ins, whether via phone, text, or meeting for coffee, can help parents feel less isolated. 4. Organize Playdates and Social Meetups Playdates or group activities with other autistic children allow kids to socialize in an understanding and supportive environment. Parents can plan autism-friendly events where the needs of their children are fully accommodated, creating a judgment-free zone. 5. Advocate Together Parents can band together to advocate for better services, awareness, and inclusion for autistic children in schools and communities. Joint advocacy efforts, whether through petitions, meetings with local authorities, or awareness campaigns, have a greater impact when parents unite. By connecting with other parents, you can build a strong support network, share experiences, and advocate for the needs of your children. #advocates #humanrights #specialneeds #autismparents #autismparenting #specialeducation #supportgroups #playdates #autism #autismsupport #INDEVNetwork #inclusion

The Power of Peer Support in Autistic Communities 💙 Peer support can be an incredibly valuable resource for parents and carers of autistic individuals. But why is it so important? 🔹 Shared Understanding: Fostering a deep sense of empathy that’s hard to find elsewhere. 🔹 Practical Advice: Sometimes the best advice comes from those who’ve walked a similar path. 🔹 Emotional Support: A safe environment to share your highs and lows. 🔹 Building Community: Isolation can be a significant challenge for parents and carers. At Autism Hampshire, we’ve created two dedicated Facebook groups designed to connect and support parents and carers: Support Group for Parents/Carers of Autistic Adults - https://lnkd.in/eQ4wf_tT Parent Support Network - https://lnkd.in/eT_NEniC These groups are more than just forums - they are places of connection, learning, and solidarity. Whether you’re seeking advice or just need someone to talk to, our community is here for you. #PeerSupport #AutismSupport #Community #Parenting #CarersSupport #AutismAwareness

Start-ups in the autism space have raised more than $700 million since 2021, per our friends at LRVHealth. This space went through a massive period of hype, which seems to be on the decline from what I'm hearing. And yet, there's still so much unmet need and so much opportunity. I've been spending a lot of time here in recent months, speaking with parents, patients, companies and other experts to figure out what the right strategy should be for VCs to ensure that we're part of the solution. The questions on my mind include: "What are the limits of ABA?" "What forms of quality control should be introduced?" If this is something you'd like to discuss or collaborate on, I'm all ears! https://lnkd.in/g-ieuT9F

Have you ever stopped to think about the barriers that other people face in our society? 🤔 It's important to consider how access and support can make a world of difference to people's lives. Society may not always intentionally exclude individuals with disabilities, but we often restrict access without even realising it! How many products or services are delivered without consideration of who might be excluded? I have been helping companies make their training more accessible for people, like me, with ADHD and would love to talk to anyone who delivers training about how I can help you. It's not just about personal responsibility, but also about recognising and addressing the systemic issues that limit access and opportunities. Together, we can break down barriers and create a more accessible and inclusive world for all. 💪 Catch the full episode with Calum at https://lnkd.in/eFSviB6e #DisabilityAwareness #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll

Just a few hours into Autism Acceptance Month, and I get hit up. While at the gas station, I was asked if I would donate to Autism Speaks. I said “no” and that I hate what they do. The cashier tried to guilt me by questioning my allegiance to the Autism Community. She didn’t believe me when I told her that I am autistic by saying one of my (sarcasm) favorite things, “you don’t look autistic.” But you know what? I’m a card-carrying member; I’m not just autistic, I’m autistic AF! She then said that I must be high-functioning autistic and that I should be more sympathetic to the parents raising kids that are low-functioning—immediately pulling focus away from those with autism. But I don’t want to spend the next hour delving into the hypocrisy here. Instead, I’d like to bring in a quote from Laura Tisonick, “The difference between high-functioning autism and low-functioning is that high-functioning means your deficits are ignored, and low-functioning means your assets are ignored.” What does that mean to me? Don’t use “low/high functioning autism”! Those are terms used to describe someone when in reality it describes the user’s own, often mis-, conception. Don’t label someone else based off your own inability to understand—that’s all I’m saying. Now let’s end on some upbeat positivity—go check out these amazing autistic-owned businesses
It's Autism Acceptance Month! This month, we celebrate the amazing diversity of the autistic community- a community that is out there running businesses, creating art, and making a positive impact. I'm sharing some inspiring examples in my latest blog post, "Shining a Light on 8 Autistic Owned Businesses." Check it out! https://lnkd.in/gM72i-it Let's move beyond labels and focus on celebrating autistic strengths this #AutismAcceptanceMonth! #ActuallyAutistic

Supporting families and Professionals on Neurodivergence, more specifically PDA. By hosting The Largest Free Global online PDA Summit, Monthly webinars within The PDA Space Portal, Nurturing and Supportive courses.
One of Tigger Prichard’s biggest missions is to ensure that information designed to help neurodivergent people is correct. And current… ✅ He lives in Cornwall and Cornwall has the first library on the planet to have a whole section dedicated to Pathological Demand Avoidance. A project Tigger has been invited to work on is to assess the literature available in libraries and to make sure it’s correct. ❌ He recently shared that whilst in one of the libraries, he saw that there was ONE book in the whole library on Autism. He picked it up to find it was aimed at making your autistic child ‘normal’ which isn’t remotely neuro-affirming. But what’s far more worrying is that parents of autistic children will often ‘trust’ a book, or trust Google more than what their child is saying. “But I read it in a book” is what many well-meaning loved ones would say when trying to actively learn how to support autistic needs better. Tigger’s message is clear - the BEST way of accessing helpful advice by far is to be in circles where this information is being shared in real time. Groups, conferences, talks where your neurokin will actually be - sharing what works for them or what really doesn’t. Come and hear him speak at Tigger on Tour in Cardiff on Saturday 13th July where he’ll be sharing so many ways of bridging the neurodivides that many autistic people are navigating. If you’d like to learn more about understanding Autistic experience: then tickets are £25 each or £44 for two - book them below or with the QR code. https://lnkd.in/eZ4-vjYc . . . . . #hiddendisability #parenting #autism #education #support
